Oil Production by Region: 1980-2010Objective: Students will identify significant statistics and changes in worldwide oil production between 1980 and 2010 by asking questions about data presented in a map and graph.

How does this fit in? We have discussed some basic similarities and differences between fossil fuels. Now we will take a closer look at how the production of oil (which is used to make petroleum products) has changed in different regions of the world.

answered by data presented in the image, and provide answers for them.

B. Write THREE questions that CANNOT be answered by data presented in the image. You do not need to provide answers for these questions - but you can if you’d like!

A. Examples:● How many barrels of oil were produced each day in

Europe, on average in 2010?Answer: 4 million barrels per day (4,000,000)

● Was the Middle East the #1 region for this entire 30-year period?Answer: No, between 1983 and 1986 North America produced more oil than the Middle East.

● You should have a third - thank you!

B. Examples:● Which country in South America produced the most

oil between 1980 and 2010?● Did major oil spills, such as the Exxon Valdez Oil

Spill in 1989, affect oil production in the United States? If so, what were the effects?

● How much of the oil produced in North America is exported to other regions?
