Everyone in the office would like to say a particular thank you for all the support she has given to them, they will all miss her very much.

We are also very grateful to Mrs Griffiths and her family who have served the Norwood community; her two children Mark and Amy came to Norwood School and her husband

Martyn was a founder member and Chairperson of the PTA.

Now it’s time for Mrs Griffiths to experience and enjoy some new and exciting opportunities in the summer sunshine. So, when you see her out and about, don’t forget

to say “Hello!”

After 20 years, our very own Mrs Vicky Griffiths will be retiring. She has been a dedicated member of staff

working tirelessly in the school office counting dinner money, dealing with the registers, doing all the photocopying and supporting children and staff in

many ways for a long time.

Wind Band

Last Friday, year 4 and the windband, played at the Floral Hall with many other schools and the famous Windgates

Brass Band! The children enjoyed the concert but were nervous as the audience was huge. The children's favourite pieces were Harry Potter (The Philophers

Stone) and The Mamma Mia Remix. You could tell because we were singing to Mamma Mia and were

speechless for Harry Potter!

Kew Woods Rugby Tournament

Last Wednesday a team of Y5/6 boys and girls took part in the annual Tag Rugby tournament and performed brilliantly and finishing 2nd in their group of 4.

Kew Woods A 4 Norwood 32 tries by Mattie Howard and one from Luke Dempster were not enough to beat Kew Woods, despite the fact that we had a number of chances to score tries. Great tagging by Lucy Dutton kept it very close, but we were to rue this defeat.

Norwood 4 St. William of York 02 more tries from Mattie Howard, a debut try form Daniel kelly and one from Lucy Dutton gave us an easy win. Our defence and especially our tagging was impressive particularly from Tom Stewart, whose dives to make tags were

extremely athletic.Norwood 2 St. Nicholas 1

Simon Gradwell and Luke Dempster each scored a try to give us what was a more comfortable win than the score

suggests.Despite these 2 wins the loss against Kew meant that they went through to the semi finals, which was particularly frustrating as our defending had become better as the games had gone on. However it was a lovely afternoon of rugby

with all the children receiving medals for participating and enjoying themselves representing the school. To round the day off We played a friendly match against Ainsadle St. Johns and won 7-0 with 2 tries from Emma Martin and one try each from Daniel Kelly, Luke Dempster, Tom Stewart, Lucy Dutton and Simon Gradwell.

KS2 Chess Club

After 8 weeks of hard practice, 25 children have successfully completed learning all the names of the pieces, how they

move and have started to play chess. Their enthusiasm has been wonderful and if anyone is interested in learning chess or improving then please visit www.chesskids.com, where there are loads of resources to help improve all abilities. This

beginners group will continue after the Easter holidays as a lunchtime club in the Activities suite.

TEAMEmma Martin, Luke Dempster, Lucie Cresswell, Tom Stewart, Simon Gradwell, Hannah Bushell, Lucy Dutton, Daniel Kelly

and Matthew Howard.

Eco committeeThe Eco committee have organised for

Richard Joynson to create some Living Willow structures on the school field.

These will provide shade for the

children when playing on the field during summer lunchtimes. The Eco committee have enjoyed helping to

weave the willow.

The Eco committee are currently judging the 'Save water' competition. The results will follow

shortly. One of the flowers most associated with March is

the narcissus (wild daffodil). These flowers

inspired William Wordsworth to write his famous poem about daffodils:

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.Find the rest of the poem and get inspired to illustrate it. You can take a photograph, use

pictures from magazines, paint, draw or collage it's up to you.

Pop your entries into the competition post box,

outside the hall by next Tuesday morning (23.3.10), with your name and class on the back.
