Observation: Malaria parasites cannot convert folate compounds (example folic acid) to their polyglutamate forms
Hypothesis 1: Parasites lack the enzyme that converts folates to polyglutamate form
Hypothesis II: Compounds are not taken up by the parasites (transport problem)
Experiment I: Assayed activity of the enzyme that carries out folate polyglutamylation. Parasites readily converted folic acid to its polyglutamate form
Theory: Malaria parasites are able to convert folates to their polyglutamate form

Obtain fraction from equality; write as numerator and denominator (ratio)
Ratio can be inverted to give two conversion factors for each equality
