Toshiba has key research facilities in Japan, China, the United States and Europe. The research conducted in these facilities addresses a number of fields. For example, Toshiba has research labs that are devoted to:

What are the European research facilities?

There are two research laboratories within Toshiba Research Europe Ltd. (TREL)

•the Cambridge Research Laboratory (CRL) in Cambridge and the

•Telecommunications Research Laboratory (TRL) in Bristol.


The CRL has three research teams:

• the Quantum Information Group, which is researching the application of quantum physics to information technologies

What is HALT testing?

In HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) testing, notebooks undergo a variety of stress tests that simulate the challenges a notebook will face during its lifetime. For example, notebooks receive repetitive shock vibrations and exposure to extreme temperatures (under -25o C and above 70o C) in the HALT testing chambers.

Accelerated lifecycle testing is a key factor in identifying and isolating possible quality issues during notebook development.

TÜV is a German public safety organisation. It completes third-party, neutral testing to verify Toshiba claims of quality.
