All vacant positions are the result of resignations and expired terms. Al Ebke, Myron Veh, Jim Ray, Vicki Fisher and Ron Fisher were reappointed to serve on the Tourism Committee. Their term will expire in Nov. 30, 2012. Laurie Cliff was appointed to the Housing Authority Board to fill the posi- tion vacated by Georgia Briery, with the term expiring Nov. 30, 2014. Jody En- field will fill the unexpired term vacated by Jeana Yost which will expire Nov. 30, 2013 and the appointment of resident member Mary Keith to fill the unexpired term vacated by Sharon Bennett, which will expire Nov. 30, 2012. The Planning Commission reappoint- ments of Len Coady, Timm Meyer and Curtis Eveleigh, the terms to expire on Nov. 30, 2013, were approved. Sue Ann Stutheit, Janell Morel and Don McClelland were appointed to the Library Board. They will fill the positions vacated by Joe Ballinger, Jack Graham and Jim Burns. The terms will expire Nov. 30, 2014. Jeremy Hawks was appointed to fill the position vacated by Lyman with his term expiring Nov. 30, 2014. Gail Boller was reappointed to the City/County Airport Board with his term expiring on Nov. 30, 2012. Mayor Corns presented a plaque the city received from the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency commemorating 100 years of Municipal Electric Service to honor the community visionaries who founded the city’s electric utility in 1910. A request for support of a research proj- ect for undergraduate capstone project was presented by Amber Nuttycomb. “I am asking for support from the coun- cil on the questionnaire to do the research for the possibility of building a dog park in Norton.” said Nuttycomb. “I have held a dog class in Tweed Park twice a year for 2 to 3 years and thought this would be a good project for my class.” Nuttycomb said she would return to a future council meeting and present a 20 minute powerpoint presentation regard Almena woman wins Pick-Em on tiebreaker By DICK BOYD [email protected] Shirley Stutterheim, Almena, was one of only three football fans missing as few as two games in the tough tenth week of the Pigskin Pick-Em Contest and was the only one choosing the right winner of the tiebreaker game so will receive the $15 scrip first prize! Shirley missed the North Carolina win over Florida State and the Oklahoma State victory over Baylor. In the tie- breaker game, TCU beat Utah 47-7 and Shirley chose TCU. Aden Schillig, Norton, and Lexie Mc- Dowell, Hill City, were the other two fans to miss just two contests. Aden miscued on the Kansas State win over Texas and North Carolina win. Lexie was wrong on the North Carolina victory and LSU win over Alabama. Both favored Utah to win the tie- breaker. Judges went to the actual scores of each team to decide who was closest to the aggregate scores. Both were a long ways off but Aden, who was 46 total points off, will receive the $10 scrip money second prize. Lexie was a total of 50 points off and will receive the $5 scrip money third prize. All Norton Community High School sports fans are invited to the weekly meet- ing of the Norton Blue Jay Booster Club Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Norton football coach Lucas Melvin will review the Blue Jays’ 42-35 loss to Beloit in the Class 3A Regional playoffs on Saturday. Norton’s season ended with an outstanding 9-1 record. At the end of the meeting, fans will be invited to watch the film of the Nor- ton-Beloit football game, which was very close and exciting with many lead changes. They run, jog, do push ups, and they all do their part to make the Penny- winner residence a veritable gym. Dad “Coach Sam” lives and breathes sports 24 hours a day; daughter Pat wants to be a wrestling champ; son Buzz, is about to start in his first football game for the Frogs; and son Alvin, lives to wear a Frog jersey.
