DRAWBACKS OF OUR COMMUNITY DASHBOARD
15
The data are not detailed enough to direct action or evaluate the success of specific strategies.
The organization maintaining the dashboard does not fund or provide direct client services.
No agency or organization is fully responsible for any one indicator.
Moving an indicator in the right direction requires action by multiple stakeholders, organizations, and the community at large.
BENEFITS OF OUR COMMUNITY DASHBOARD
16
Joint ownership – common language Provides an opportunity to elevate the
work of community partnerships and builds their community identity as the key entity for an issue.
Helps stakeholders better appreciate how their success is tied to success in other disciplines, jurisdictions or sectors.
Helps identify areas needing more attention.
Tells a story about the entire community and gauging our collective success.
RAISES AWARENESS OF SYSTEMS’ INTER-CONNECTEDNESS
18
• A comparative analysis of community plans and a year of vetting with issue area groups and non-profits culminated in the development of a Strategic Framework for Action.
• The Strategic Framework for Action outlines the basic building blocks that can help our community achieve its goals and vision.
• What became clear was that all parts of the Dashboard are important for ALL people!
RAISES AWARENESS OF NEED FOR CULTURAL COMPETENCE, DIVERSITY AND
INCLUSION
19
• A CAN Work Group developed an on-line Cultural Competence Diversity and Inclusion Tool Kit
• Developing training in CCDI for key systems leaders in the community for 2015
• Convened forum on Cultural Proficiency and Interpretation/Translation Services
• Preparing to conduct a survey of local agencies to better understand the community’s need for interpreter/translation services
RAISES AWARENESS OF THE IMPACT OF CHANGING DEMOGRAPHICS ON THE LOCAL
SAFETY NET
20
• CAN hosted a policy forum on the Suburbanization of Poverty in fall of 2013.
• CAN convened a Community Engagement and Place-Based Planning Work Group.
• CAN hosted four Safety Net Forums in 2014.• CAN will host Asset Based Community
Development trainings on Unlocking Neighborhood Assets.
• CAN is hosting a “Voices from the Street Community Engagement Summit” on how to engage more people in public policy discussions and decisions.
RAISES AWARENESS OF SIGNIFICANCE OF PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION
21
• CAN conducted an inventory of local youth-serving organizations to assess prevention and intervention services currently available.
• CAN’s work is informing the strategic plan for a new Trauma Informed Care Consortium of Central Texas.
• CAN will host a forum on prevention and intervention to share what we have learned with the community.
We achieve our full
potential

Help me get a good start.
Provide services where I am.
Consider my whole family.
Create neighborhoods where I can access opportunity.
Develop a system that works for me.
Empower me to improve my community.
Respect me and talk to me in a way I can understand.
