Tiger Code of Conduct

Arrival at School5

Enter the building through the Commons entrance or front entrance. Doors will open at 6:30 AM, unless prearranged with a faculty member prior to the day of the early arrival.

Once on campus, all students report and remain in the Commons area until the 7:24 AM bell.

Students attending tutorials MUST have a pass, a parent or teacher, to gain access to the hallways before 7:24 AM.

Closed Campus6

Students are not allowed to leave campus without proper authorization.

Students are not permitted to loiter in the parking lot or any unauthorized area on campus during or after school hours.

If students need to retrieve something from their car, they must obtain a parking lot pass from the downstairs administrator’s office (A116).NOTE: Retrieving items from your car should not be a regular occurrence. If this becomes a habit, you will be denied a parking lot pass for a period of time as determined by your administrator.

Late Arrival to School7

Students arriving after 7:35 AM must immediately report to the attendance office to sign in and obtain a tardy slip to class.

Your failure to sign in at the attendance office may result in your receiving an unexcused absence.

Note: If your bus arrives after 7:30 AM, report immediately to your class. An announcement will be made by office personnel notifying teachers of any bus arriving after 7:30 AM.

Dress Code8

Student attire and grooming shall not distract, disrupt, create a safety hazard, or take away from the educational process. All students must adhere to the FBISD established dress code at all times (see Supplement).

Examples of inappropriate attire: garments with logos, slogans/pictures that are suggestive or represent tobacco products, alcohol, drugs, violence, guns, illegal or disruptive acts; hats, knit caps, scarves, caps or any other headgear; sagging pants/shorts or skirts, etc. above mid-thigh; holes above mid-thigh; “Jeggins”, leggings, yoga pants without a long tunic or top or tight fitting clothes and tank/half-tops; bandanas; mouth grills, sunglasses, body piercing, tattoos, unshaven students, etc.

ID Cards9

Just like faculty, students are REQUIRED to have their own current school year ID VISIBLY DISPLAYED on their body while on campus during the instructional school day (i.e., on a lanyard).

ID cards are to be on your person while attending afterschool activities whether on or off campus (i.e., in a pocket or purse).

ID cards are to be used in the lunch line, to check out library books or textbooks, for admission to dances and other school-related events.

Replacement ID cards may be obtained in the library for a $5.00 replacement fee.

Tardies10

Students are required to be in class after the bell completes ringing for classes to begin.

Tardy students must report to the nearest “Smart Start” station to have their tardy recorded in Skyward and to be escorted by an adult to either their class or assigned administrator.

Students may not stay late in a previous class to complete an assignment or test.

Excessive tardies will affect a student’s exemption status for end-of-year exams and a disciplinary action will be accessed (i.e., Three tardies equals one absence for exemption purposes).

Hall Passes11

To leave class, a student must obtain a hall pass from the teacher and may only use the restroom in close proximity to the classroom.

Students are expected to go directly to the location indicated on the pass and return directly to class. There should be no added stops (i.e., locker, office, gym, etc.).

Students that violate this rule will be placed on the No Pass list.

Clinic12

Students will only be admitted into the clinic with a yellow pass from their teacher or a prepared pass from the clinic.

Students are not permitted to use cell phones to call home regarding an illness. If parent contact is necessary, it will be done by staff within the clinic.

Students must sign in and out when entering and leaving the clinic.

Any student leaving school through the clinic must still bring an excused note, with their parent or guardian’s signature, to the attendance office upon the student’s return to school.

Cell phones13

Cell phones must be kept on “silent” from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM Our electronic device phone policy allows students to check their phones

between classes for messages and/or make necessary phone calls. Students PLEASE charge your electronic devices at home, not on campus.1st & 2nd Offense - $15 fine; picked up by parent after 24 hours.3rd Offense – $15 fine and phone returned at the end of the semester or

school year as applicable.Refusal to give a cell phone to a staff member will be considered

insubordination and will result in a 1 to 3 day ISS placement and/or suspension from school.

Administrators/Police Officers will not investigate lost or stolen cell phones according to FBISD policy. KEEP YOUR PHONES SAFE!

Confiscated Property14

Students may not bring items to school that are inappropriate or specifically against school rules. Such items will be confiscated and disciplinary action will be taken as warranted.

Examples of inappropriate items: Toys, games, squirt guns, masks, wigs, cigarettes, matches, lighters, any tobacco product, e-cigarettes, weapons, hats, cameras, video games, and other like electronic devices or accessories, etc.

THS will not be responsible for inappropriate confiscated items that become lost or damaged.

Cafeteria15

All lunches must be eaten in the Commons or on the covered patio area adjoining the Commons.

Travis is a closed campus for lunch, therefore, students may NOT leave campus to buy or eat lunch.

Do not cut in the lunch line or save a spot for your friends.Students MUST show their ID and use their ID number for

each cafeteria purchase regardless of the dollar amount.NOTE: Removing items from the lunch lines without paying for them first is a legal violation and a disciplinary action will be taken and a citation may be issued.

Cafeteria cont.16

Clean up your eating area after you finish your lunch by placing your trash in the trashcans provided within the Commons.

Food and/or drink items, other than water in its original container (i.e., bottled water), are not permitted in the hallways or classrooms.

Restrooms across from the library and near the gyms are available to students each lunch period. All others are off limits during your lunch break.

Vending machines are “off limits” during class time.

Dismissal from School17

All students must leave the building, report to tutorials or detention, or go to their school sponsored activity at the 2:30 PM dismissal bell.

All students being picked up before 3:00 PM, must be picked up in the front circular drive. Parents are not permitted access to the bus ramp to pick up students until after 2:45 PM.

Students may NOT loiter in the building after school. Any student in an unsupervised area may be subject to trespassing charges or disciplinary action being assessed as appropriate.

Riding the Bus with a Friend18

Students planning to ride a bus other than their assigned bus must have a signed parent or guardian note requesting permission.

Turn in the note at your Assistant Principal’s office at the start of the instructional day.

The principal must be able to contact the parent or guardian to verify the note before 1:30 PM in order to approve the request.

NOTE: Approval of a request to ride an unassigned bus will not be granted if it will cause a bus to become full or overcrowded.

Detention19

Students assigned PM or Saturday detention must be on time, adhere to the FBISD dress code and school rules, and have school work to complete while in detention.

Failure to attend detention or any misbehavior while serving a detention will result in the assignment of additional detention days, ISS and/or suspension if warranted.

Computer Use20

All students must have a signed Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) on file before accessing the district’s computer system.

The AUP should be signed by both the student and the student’s parent or guardian.

Students will also be denied computer access until their completed emergency form is on file in the clinic.

Violations of the AUP could result in the withdrawal of a student’s computer privileges and disciplinary action taken as warranted.

Absences21

Following an absence, students MUST submit a written excuse note containing their parent or guardian’s signature to the attendance office on their first day back to school after the absence.

Failure to submit a written excuse note within five (5) days of the student’s return from an absence SHALL result in the absence being recorded as an unexcused absence.

Truancy guidelines (district/state) will be enforced after a student has accumulated three (3) or more unexcused absences.

Excessive Absences22

The State of Texas mandates that students must be in attendance 90% of the instructional school days.

Students will be notified of excessive absences.

Students in attendance less than 90%, but greater than 75%, of the instructional days will need to file a Petition to Retain Credit with their assigned administrator; the attendance committee will then review the petition according to the student’s circumstances and render a decision.

Leaving School Early23

Bring a note with your parent’s signature and phone number, then submit it to the attendance office where you will receive an early release pass.

Your note will be verified by the attendance office before you will be issued an early release pass.

All students must sign out with the attendance office upon leaving the building.

Failure to follow the above procedure will result in your absence being marked as an unexcused absence.

Emergency Procedures24

A “siren” initiates the evacuation of the building.Immediately follow building evacuation routes unless there

is an announcement from the front office of a false alarm.Students must stay with their teacher when evacuating.Students should take only personal items with them.Walk clear of the building in a single file line. Do not bunch

together in halls or doorways. Remain quiet at all times.Wait for the all-clear signal and your teacher’s directions

Make Up Work28

The responsibility for make-up work rests with the student, not the teacher. All teachers will have a designated spot in their room for make-up work.

Students have one (1) day to make up work for each day of absence, regardless of the absence being marked as excused or unexcused.

Off Campus Students29

Students assigned to an “off campus” period must remain off campus during said class period. Repeated violations of being on campus during such time will result in the student’s removal from “off campus” periods.

Transportation to/from campus before/after an “off campus” class period is the responsibility of each applicable student.
