Representatives from Argo, GHRSST, OSTST are also ex officio members of the science team The GOVST co-chairs and the project office oversee the activities of the task teams and assist the TT co-chairs if and when required

Membership – general terms

• The GODAE Ocean Science Team (GOVST) membership should reflect all major activities supported by GODAE Ocean View

Membership - responsibility

The Science Team is responsible for:

o Leading and managing the execution of the GODAE OceanView

o Promoting the development of improved capabilities in ocean analysis and forecasting

o Developing collaborations and improved communications between the GODAE OceanView partners

o Evaluating scientific developments to optimize the use of knowledge and technology in GODAE Ocean View implementations

o Reporting on national activities related to GODAE Ocean View. Maintain an up-to-date description of national capabilities related to ocean analysis and forecasts (national reports)

o Liaising with other international programs of interest to, and interested in, GODAE Ocean View

Some of the GODAE OceanView objectives will be pursued through a series of Task Teams each run by two co-chairs

Prediction TT)Pierre De Mey & Villy Kourafalou (Coastal Ocean and Shelf Seas TT)Fabrice Hernandez & Matt Martin (Intercomparison and Validation TT)Peter Oke & Gilles Larnicol (Observing System Experiments TT)

These teams will address specific topics that require active collaboration with international research programs (e.g. OOPC, CLIVAR, IMBER, WCRP).

• The group will consist of representatives of those agencies or groups which are well placed to provide guidance to the members of the science team or be kept informed of its discussions and to provide resources for GODAE OcenaView activities

• The draft responsibilities of the Patrons group are to:– Provide visibility for and promote the value of GODAE OceanView and its

activities – Promote the concept of GODAE OceanView at national and international level– Provide a focus for national participation in GODAE OceanView– Obtain or provide appropriate resources for GODAE OceanView– Provide advice to the International GODAE OceanView Science Team on

matters of resources, international coordination and funding priorities

• Members of the Patrons’ Group are representatives from space and in-situ observation agencies (e.g. EUMETSAT,CNES, NASA, NOAA, etc.) and from the national forecasting centres (e.g. Mercator Ocean, Ifremer, Met Office…)
