1st GOVST Meeting, Mercator-Ocean, Toulouse, 8-10 June 2009
Membership – general terms
• The GODAE Ocean Science Team (GOVST) membership should reflect all major activities supported by GODAE Ocean View
• Currently limited to 30 members to allow for an efficient and effective operation of the team
• The GODAE OceanView science team will initially be co-chaired by two of its members
• New members will be proposed by the chair or co-chairs and are subject to approval by the Science Team itself
• The term of membership will normally be 4 years but can be extended with the agreement of the chair or co-chairs
• The chair of ET-OOFS and the chairs of the Task Teams are members of GODAE Ocean View Science Team. Representatives from Argo, GHRSST, OSTST are also ex officio members of the science team
• The GOVST co-chairs and the project office oversee the activities of the task teams and assist the TT co-chairs if and when required
1st GOVST Meeting, Mercator-Ocean, Toulouse, 8-10 June 2009
Membership - responsibility
The Science Team is responsible for:
o Leading and managing the execution of the GODAE OceanView
o Promoting the development of improved capabilities in ocean analysis and forecasting
o Developing collaborations and improved communications between the GODAE OceanView partners
o Evaluating scientific developments to optimize the use of knowledge and technology in GODAE Ocean View implementations
o Reporting on national activities related to GODAE Ocean View. Maintain an up-to-date description of national capabilities related to ocean analysis and forecasts (national reports)
o Liaising with other international programs of interest to, and interested in, GODAE Ocean View
1st GOVST Meeting, Mercator-Ocean, Toulouse, 8-10 June 2009
• The GODAE OceanView Science Team (GOVST) is an international forum of scientists involved in global/regional ocean analysis and forecasting
• GOVST includes scientists from
– national ocean forecasting centres – representatives of key observing systems– representatives from related international/intergovernmental
research groups– scientific experts
