Agriculture over Human Sacrifice Human sacrifice was a common practice in many traditions and cultures. It has been practiced in Hawaii, Japan, China, South America and Romans.

Number of reasons for Aztec sacrifice: paying a debt to the gods, political control of neighbors through terrorism and population control in a crowded region.

Agriculture over Human Sacrifice Chinampas were unique to the Aztecs, floating island that greatly expanded food output and enabled the Aztecs to feed about 10 million people which included the entire Mexican Valley.

The chinampas belonged to the whole community not to individuals. The whole community shared the wealth and food production.
