    Christocentricity of Catechesis

It is the task of catechesis to show who JesusChrist is, his life and ministry, and to presentthe Christian faith as the following of hisperson [T]he mystery of Christ is notanother element alongside others, it is ratherthe center from which all other elements arestructured and illuminated (GDC, 41).

The definitive aim of catechesis is to putpeople not only in touch, but also incommunion and intimacy with JesusChrist (GDC, 80).

    14/15

    Christocentricity of Catechesis

Jesus Christ is at once the message, the

messenger, the purpose of the message, and

the consummation of the message (NDC, 1).

The object of catechesis is communion withJesus Christ. Catechesis leads people to

enter the mystery of Christ, to encounter him,

and to discover themselves and the meaning

of their lives in him (NDC, 19B).

    15/15

    Christocentricity of Catechesis

Every disciple of the Lord Jesus must be

women and men of prayer whose faith is alive

and vital, grounded in a deep commitment to

the person and message of Jesus

    (OHWB,2).
