Additional Identified Services or Service Extensions

For ground station based CFDP architectures the working group members (NASA/ESA) reported the need to include the mission control system in the loop for all data uplinked to the spacecraft. In this case the CFDP PDUs (for NAK etc.) have to be transferred from the ground station to the mission control centre which in turn sends it back to the ground station via CLTU or FSP. However, for the transfer of the CFDP PDUs from the ground station to the mission control centre there is no suitable CCSDS service.

CSTS Transfer File Service

• CSTS Transfer File Service Priority 1 12/31/2015

[CFXS] is a generic transfer file service allowing to transfer files between two units, and - on top of this generic service more specialized file services will allow requesting the dedicated processing for the file being transferred.

Estimated Effort:

Comments: Subject File Transfer BOF

CSTS Offline Radio Metric Service

• CSTS Offline Radio Metric Service Priority 1 12/31/2015

It is assumed that a generic transfer file service allowing to transfer files between two units, i.e. [CFXS], will be available and - on top of this generic service more specialized file services will allow requesting the dedicated processing for the file being transferred. In this case, it is expected that the CSTS Offline Radio Metric Service will allow the Ground Tracking Asset to inform the Control Center about applied processing and file contents (i.e. Tracking Data Messages (TDM) according to the [TDM] standard specifying a format for use in exchanging spacecraft tracking data).

Estimated Effort:

Comments: Subject File Transfer BOF

CSTS Forward Frames Service

Priority 2 12/31/2018

Forward Internetworking for DTN, Forward Internetworking for IP, Return Internetworking for DTN, Return Internetworking for IP.

Estimated Effort:

Comments: The purpose as stated in Catalogue#2 should be updatedSubject to CSTS WG based on CSTS SFW. This service includes Forward Synchronous Frame Service

Forward Synchronous Encoded Frame Service

Priority 2 12/31/2018

This Service enables a mission to send Frames to a spacecraft by allowing a Control Center to provide - in an asynchronous manner - a Ground Tracking Asset with encoded frames for uplink to a spacecraft in a synchronous manner. The Ground Tracking Asset will undertake to insert predefined idle frames in the absence of user supplied data.

Estimated Effort:

Comments: Included in Forward Frame Service. Does not have to be done as a separate service.

CSTS D-DOR Data Service

• CSTS D-DOR Data Service Priority 2 12/31/2018

The CSTS D-DOR Data Service is to be written. It is assumed that a generic transfer file service allowing to transfer files between two units, i.e. [CFXS], will be available and - on top of this generic service more specialized file services will allow requesting the dedicated processing for the file being transferred. In this case, it is assumed that the CSTS D-DOR Data Service [DDORS] will implement delivery of newly defined D-DOR raw data transfer according to [DDRXF].

Estimated Effort:

Comments: Subject File Transfer BOF. This is a specialised file transfer. The challenge of these files is the large file size (use of inverse multiplexing etc.). This service will be suitable to transfer open loop recordings.

CSTS Forward File Service

• CSTS Forward File Service Priority 3 12/31/2020

This Service enables a mission to send the contents of a file to a spacecraft by allowing a Control Center to provide a Ground Tracking Asset with files for uplink. Within Catalog #1, usage of this service is limited to a spacecraft directly reachable from a Ground Tracking Asset (i.e. single hop space link)

Estimated Effort:

Comments: Re-discuss with IOAG if this can be confirmed. The required closed loop at the ground station does not seem to be the way mission want to operate.

CSTS Return File Service

• CSTS Return File Service Priority 3 12/31/2020

This Service enables a mission to send the contents of a file to a Control Center by allowing a Ground Tracking Asset to provide a Control Center with files received from a spacecraft.

CSTS Return Unframed Telemetry

• CSTS Return Unframed Telemetry Priority 3 12/31/2020

This Service enables a mission to send Telemetry (not presenting any standardized/known formatting to the service provider) to a Control Center. It relies on the same Space Link Interface Standards applicable to Return All Frames Service plus the following Space Link Interface Standards and Ground Link Interface Standards. - SLE Return Unframed Telemetry [RUFT] This service will accommodate legacy missions not compliant with most recent CCSDS space link standards and it shall not be offered to future missions.

Estimated Effort:

Comments: There is an ANSI standard that refines the RAF service to provide unframed telemetry.
