FlexPower ManagerDual Controller Mode
When in dual controller Mode you have a new option when creating a virtual disk : » Controller Afffinity.
To install an operating system affinity MUST be
set to SCM1.

FlexPower ManagerDual Controlle/Operating System Point of View
When a second Storage Controller Module is installed, each Compute Module is presented with two paths to the same virtual disk; however, only one path can ever be active at a time.
After Windows has been installed, updated Storport and MPIO device drivers must be installed to manage these multiple paths and to provide failover to an alternate path in the event of a failure of the currently active path. Those Drivers are available on Express Builder Minimum revision 16.1.0

- This port is managed under the Storage control Module
- This port can be configured to be accessed by one or several compute Module
- This port will support only Tape Libraries
- Be carefull when a tape library is connected to this Port only one compute module will have to be configured in the « expansion port » section.

This is the place where customer can enter key to get optional features such as Shared Lun or Lun copier. The customer needs to buy those keys.
Optionnal Feature :Shared Lun
28
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
The Shared LUN feature allows more than one server to read and write to a virtual drive (also known as LUN) at the same time. The ability to read/write to a shared drive is required for applications such as clustering or virtual machine migration.
Optionnal Feature :Storage Management Pack
29
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
• What is it?Enables local copies of any LUN (Virtual Drive). Firmware dependent whether compute modules can be on or off to copy the virtual drive.Simplifies tasks such as
(a) creating a local copy of a data LUN (b) creating a new OS LUN (which can be assigned to a new
compute module as the boot LUN), by copying an existing LUN which already has an OS installed in it
• What are the benefits?– Local back up – Operating System provisioning/deployment– Non-Production Environment testing– Off-line and on-line RAID morphing
Optionnal Feature :Storage Management Pack

Optionnal Feature :Advanced Management Pack
31
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
• What is it?Provides support for import/export of all CMM settings from one chassis to another, LDAP support for user authentication and SYSLOG support
What are the benefits?Ability to deploy multiple chassis* with the same configuration information (including storage configuration)Export configuration from one chassis as a zip file and import to ‘n’ number of chassisBase FW versions must match as well as the physical storage configuration (i.e. same drive type & same number of drives)Integration with existing LDAP implementations for seamless user authentication Support for forwarding all events to SYSLOG for external mining by Linux based tools
Optionnal Feature :Advanced Management Pack

Logs
34
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
In order to do a diagnostic three differents logs needs to be asked to the customer. Those logs will be mandatory when raising a case to the COE attention :
1 - Reports => Diagnostics => Test => System information report
2 - Reports => Diagnostics => Service data => Complete system diagnostics 3 - Reports => Events => fichier XML
System Information Report
35
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
This log will give us a summary of the customer’s configuration in a readable HTML format.
When pressing « system information report it will get the information and ask a place to save the file. ( In a zip file called « diagout.user.htm.zip »
Complete System Diagnostic
36
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
This log will give us a summary of the customer’s detailled configuration.
When pressing « complete system diagnostics » it will get the information and ask a place to save the file. ( In a zip file called « diagout.htm.zip ».This files is automatically protected by a password that can’t be provided.
Event Logs
37
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
The events section shows all the history of events that happened on all components. By selecting « Export all » customer can send them to us in XML format.
UFU Firmware
38
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
The firmware section allow us to update the UFU (Unified Firmware Update. This will update ALL flexpower component at once ( Bios, BMC, Storage and network switch, Etc…). This update will require a reboot of the main component, reboot that customer can schedule himself.
UFU Update
39
Nec Computers SAS - Confidential - 06-2008 - FlexPower -
Be carefull when updating from previous revisions it has to be done step by step you need to have specific minimum revision ( For example to update to latest revision 6.1 you need minimum revision 2.7, etc….)
With every UFU revision an UFU decoder is delivered, please make sure you consult it
Some UFU revision added specific feature ( Shared Lun appeared in revision 2.6…)
For every external library issue please make sure customer has UFU 6.1 minimum
Drivers
When having an issue please make sure you have not only the latest UFU but also newest drivers. There are often updated on NEC Website. ( Under Servers/Blade section)
