1 Kings 8:10-11 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

This cloud was the glory of God made visible so that men could see that God was in the house.

Today God puts it in the hearts of His children to be aware of and acknowledge His Presence.

But we have to pay attention!

The glory of God later left this

temple because of the sins of Israel.

Ezekiel 10:18

The Israelites had quit honoring God, and He withdrew His Presence until Jesus came.

It can happen in churches today.

Revelation 2 1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith He that holdeth the seven stars in His right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2 I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

Jesus saw many good things in the church at Ephesus.

The Lord wants us to be patient with people, but zealous against their sins.

Rev 2:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for My Name's Sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Search your heart today.Has your love for the Lord and His church

grown dim and cold?

The sin Christ charged this church with, is, not having

left and forsaken the object of their love, but having

lost the fervent degree of it that at first appeared.

Christ is displeased with His people, when he sees

them grow remiss and cold toward Him.

Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.

Let’s renew our love for the Lord, so that we may say with David how much we enjoy going to the house of the Lord, leading the way with joy.

Psalm 42:4 (NIV)

Back to our text:12 Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that He would dwell in the thick darkness. 13 I have surely built Thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for Thee to abide in forever. 14 And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;)

Exodus 19:9 (TLB) Then He said to Moses, "I am going to come to you in the form of a dark cloud, so that the people themselves can hear Me when I talk with you, and then they will always believe you.

Exodus 13 21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

1 Kings 8:15 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with His mouth unto David my father, and hath with His hand fulfilled it, saying, 16 Since the day that I brought forth My people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that My Name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

Solomon continued speaking to the people:

12

17 And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the Name of the LORD God of Israel. 18 And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto My Name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart.

David had a good heart and a good desire, but it was not God’s Will for him to do it.

We must know the Will of God for our selves.

Be where God wants you; do what God wants.

13

19 Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto My Name. 20 And the LORD hath performed His Word that He spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the Name of the LORD God of Israel.

21 And I have set there a place for the Ark, wherein is the Covenant of the LORD, which He made with our fathers, when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. 22 And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward Heaven:

Page 15: 1 kings 8b keep on with patience

15

23 And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in Heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before Thee with all their heart: 24 Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that Thou promised him: Thou spakest also with Thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with Thine hand, as it is this day.

Solomon took no credit for building the temple.

God said it and God did it.

Page 16: 1 kings 8b keep on with patience

16

25 Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that Thou promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in My sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before Me as thou hast walked before Me.

Sin is the cause of all our troubles; repentance and forgiveness lead to all human happiness.

Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.

We must take heed to our way, being certain that we are walking with God every

step of the way.Veer not to the left nor to the right.

Never go your own way in any thing at any time.

2 Thessalonians 3:13 (KJV) But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

Don’t turn back; don’t even look back.

Hebrews 10:35-36 (KJV) Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the Will of God, ye might receive the Promise.

Keep on keeping on!
