Solomon died; his son Rehoboam took the throne.

931BC

The nation split, Rehoboam ruled Judah (and Benjamin).

He was wicked, died, and his son Abijam became king; he too was wicked.

Abijam died young, and Asa became king; he did right in the eyes of the Lord.

But, in his older years, Asa got proud and quit depending on

the Lord.

1 Kings 15:25 And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.

Right after Asa was king of Judah, Nadab, son of Jeroboam took the throne in the north. 910BC

His rule lasted only two years.

Meanwhile in the north:

Jeroboam ruled for 22 years and died.

His son lasted 2 yrs

26 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

Nadab was the second king of Israel after the

nation split.

27 And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon.

28 Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him (Nadab), and reigned in his stead. 29 And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which He spake by His servant Ahijah the Shilonite:

Baasha overthrew Nadab and killed him and all of Jeroboam’s family.

Just as God said would happen. 14:14

30 Because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger.

All his life, Jeroboam thought he was getting away with sin.

But all the time he was under God’s judgment.

He provoked The Lord to anger!

31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 32 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

Baasha began to rule in Asa’s third year, and he ruled for 24 years.

They never got along.

33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty and four years. 34 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

Baasha defeated and killed Nadab, and then killed all the family of Jeroboam.

God permitted this because of Jeroboam’s awful sin as king of Israel.

Nadab was the brother of Abijah who had died in childhood. …. He was the second ruler of the Jeroboam dynasty, and reigned for two years (910-909 B.C.).

1 Kings 14 17 And Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;

Jeroboam sent his wife to the prophet Ahijah; he prophesied doom for that family; it began immediately.

Baasha was no better than Jeroboam or his

son.

Baasha was no better than Jeroboam or his

son.During the single reign of Asa in Judah, the government of Israel was in six or seven different hands. Observe the ruin of the family of Jeroboam; no Word of God shall fall to the ground. Divine threatenings are not designed merely to terrify. Ungodly men execute the just judgments of God upon each other.

No Word of God shall fall to the ground.Every Word of God is true and to be trusted.

John 3 16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

Can we believe that? Can we put our trust in it?

Romans 6 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The pleasure and profit of sin do not deserve to be called fruit. Sinners are but ploughing iniquity, sowing vanity, and reaping the same. Shame came into the world with sin, and is still the certain effect of it. The end of sin is death.

Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary

Someone may say, “But I am saved; I don’t have to worry about any of that.”

Being saved will assure our place in Heaven.

But it is pay as you go here on

earth!

Page 17: 1 kings 15c

17

Though the way (of sin) may seem pleasant and inviting, yet it will be bitterness in the latter end. From this condemnation the believer is set at liberty, when made free from sin. If the fruit is unto holiness, if there is an active principle of true and growing grace, the end will be everlasting life; a very happy end! Though the way is up-hill, though it is narrow, thorny, and beset, yet everlasting life at the end of it is sure.

Psalm 1 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the Law of the LORD; and in His Law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Every Word of God is true and to be trusted.
