3. THANA
After the takbir, say the following praise of Allah:
“Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdika watabaara kasmuka
wata ‘ala jadduka wa laa ilaha ghayruk.”
Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise, and blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty, and there is no god except You.

4. TA’UDH
Whenever you begin to recite Qur’an, you should first seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan by saying the ta’udh and then seek the help of Allah:
“A’udhu billahi minash shaytan nir rajeem. Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem.”
I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Devil.
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Next, you will recite Surah al-Fatihah. This surah must be recited in every rakat of salah.

Siraatal ladheena an ‘amta ‘alayhim, ghayril maghdubi ‘alayhim, walad daalleen (aameen).
All praise is for Allah, the lord of all the worlds. The Most Beneficent, the Most
Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone do we worship, and You alone to we ask for help. Guide us on the straight path; the path of those whom You have favored, not
those whom Your anger is upon, nor of those who go astray.

After reading Surah al-Fatihah, recite another surah if you are in the first 2 rakats of a 2-, 3-, or 4-rakat salah.
6. RUKU’
Then say “Allahu akbar”, bend at the hips until your back is straight, and say 3 times:
“Subhana rabbi al ‘adheem.”
Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great.
The Ruku’ Position
Say “Allahu akbar” again and stand with your arms down at your sides.
The Qiyam Position

7. QIYAM While standing ( qiyam ), say:
“Sami ‘allahu liman hamida. Rabbana lakal hamd.”
Allah hears who praises Him. Our Lord, for You is all praise.
Say “Allahu akbar” again and go into prostration ( sajdah ).
8. SAJDAH While in sajdah, say 3 times:
“Subhana rabbi al a’la.”
Glory be to my lord, the Most High.
Women should tuck in their arms while in sadjah. Make sure the right foot goes over the left foot.
Then say “Allahu akbar” and sit in the jalsa (sitting) position.
Page 7
9. JALSA
While sitting between the 2 prostrations ( sajdah ), say 2 times:
“Rabbighfirli.”
O my Lord, forgive me.
The Jalsa Position
Then say “Allahu akbar”, go into sajdah again, and repeat “Subhana rabbi al a’la” 3 times. Say “Allahu akbar” and sit up again. This completes one rakat of salah. The 2nd rakat is said in the same way, except that after the 2nd sajdah, you stay sitting and say the tashahhud.
Page 8
10. TASHAHHUD
While sitting in the jalsa position, say:
والصلـوات والطيـباتالتحيـات هللاAt tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu
As salaamu ‘alaika ayyuhan nabbiyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakaa tuhu

Ash hadu an laa ilaaha ilallah
Wa ash hadu anna muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasooluh.
All greetings are for Allah, and all prayers and pure things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy and blessing of Allah. Peace be on us and on the righteous
servants of Allah.
I testify that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the servant and messenger of Allah.*
Page 9
*When you reach the point of giving testimony (saying “Laa ilaaha ilallah”), raise the index finger of your right hand. Drop it back down again when you say “ilallah”.
Raise your index finger during “Laa ilaaha ilallah”
In a 3- or 4-rakat salah, stand up for the remaining rakat(s) after the tashahhud. In the final rakat of any salah, recite the tashahhud and the durood. On the other hand, if it is a 2-rakat salah, like Fajr, keep sitting, and after reciting the tashahhud, recite the durood.
11. DUROOD
The durood is for sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). After the tashahhud, say the durood:
دمحلى آل مع و دمحلى مل عص مالله Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Muhammadin
Innaka hameedun majeed.

Innaka hameedun majeed.
O Allah! Send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You sent
prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.
O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings on Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.

12. DUA
After reciting the durood, say the following dua:
فاللهن تـي ظلـمإن سـيـم Allahumma inni dhalamtu nafsi

Innaka antal ghafoor ur raheem.
O Allah! I have extremely wronged myself. There is none to forgive the sins but You.
So pardon me and have mercy on me. Indeed You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
You can say many other duas in Arabic at this time in the salah, but this is a highly recommended dua.
Page 12
13. SALAAM
Now turn your face to your right and say:
“Assalaamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullah.”
Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you.
Salaam to your right.
Then turn your face to your left and say the salaam again:
Salaam to your left.
After saying the salaam, the salah is complete. You should follow your salah with praises of Allah, or tasbih:
Say: “Subhan Allah” 33 times “Alhamdulillah” 33 times “Allahu akbar” 34 times

14. DUA QUNOOT OF WITR
When you pray 3 rakat of witr in the isha salah, the first two rakats are prayed as usual. In the last rakat, recite Surah al-Fatihah, then another surah, and then do a takbir and put your hands up again, as if starting a new prayer. Then recite the dua qunoot and finish the prayer as usual:
ن و كينعتسا ننا مغالهتفسبك نومن و كر Allahumma inna nasta’ee nuka wa nastagh firuka wa nu-mi nubika

O Allah, we seek Your assistance and we seek Your forgiveness, and we believe in You, and we praise You for all good, and we are grateful to You, and we part with and break away from all who disobey You. O Allah, You alone do we worship and to You we pray and
prostrate, and we hasten eagerly toward You, and we fear Your punishment, and we hope for Your mercy. Indeed Your severe punishment is surely to be meted out to the disbelievers.
