Combustion ChambersCombustion Chambers

• The purpose of the combustion chamber is to provide a hot environment for the oil to burn.

• The oil and air mixture burns best in a hot chamber.

• The chamber reflects the heat and provides for the containment of the flame.

Fire Brick or Hard BrickFire Brick or Hard Brick

• Heavier than insulating brick• Takes more time to heat up• Used only on commercial and industrial

applications• Large chambers that are subject to greater

shock need to be replaced more frequently.

Metal ChambersMetal Chambers

• Used in factory built units• Are sensitive to improper firing rates• If flame comes into contact with the

chamber a hole can be burnt through it.• Not recommended to be used with

retention burners.• Replace with pre-cast ceramic

chambers.

Insulating BrickInsulating Brick

• Porosity and lightness makes it highly resistant to penetration of heat.

• Glows red in 15 seconds• Temperature ranges:– Up to 3.0gph 2000°F Firebrick– 3 - 5 gph 2300°F Firebrick– 6 - 15 gph 2600°F Firebrick– 16 - 25 gph 2800°F Firebrick– Over 25 gph 3000°F Firebrick

• Proper cement must be used so that the expansion of the brick and the cement is identical. This will prevent cracking.

Ceramic ChambersCeramic Chambers

• Special blanket is used to line old chambers.

• Caution must be used when installing blanket not to make it to small.

• The blanket can also be used as a chamber with a stainless steel binder.

• Nothing can come into contact with the blanket after installation, it will crumble.

Molded ChambersMolded Chambers

• Semi-Insulation Material that is similar to a ceramic blanket except that no binder is needed for it to hold shape.

• Replacements are shipped in the same shape they are installed in.

• Replacement packs usually contain a portion of insulating blanket to seal spaces and cracks between sections.

• The chamber acts like a mixing bowl for hot gas, air and oil.

• The best shape is round or oval.• Square corners create eddy currents which

lower the flame temperature. When square chambers are needed the corners are usually angled.
