Joshua 1:2-9 1 Kings 2:2-4Be strong and courageous

(repeated three times)Be strong, therefore, and

show yourself a man.

Be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to

the right or to the left... This book of the Law shall

not depart from your mouth

Keep the charge of the Lord your God, to walk in

His ways, to keep His statutes, His

commandments, His ordinances, and His

testimonies, according to what is written in the Law

Then you will make your way prosperous, and then

you will have success.

So that the Lord may carry out His promise

which He spoke concerning me

came from the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11 so that the

priests could not stand to minister

because of the cloud, for the glory of the

LORD filled the house of the LORD. (1 Kings

8:11-12).

1 Kings 11:1-21 Kings 11:1-2Now King Solomon loved many

foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2 from the nations concerning which the LORD had said to the sons of Israel, “You shall not associate with them, neither shall they associate with you, for they will surely turn your heart away after their gods.” Solomon held fast to these in love.

hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines, and his wives turned his heart away.

Spiritual SignificanceSpiritual SignificanceI Kings - The United Kingdom

David/Bathsheba – God will set you up for a blessing. Can you stand to be blessed?

Solomon – To have wisdom is not enough if you don’t apply it to everyday living in obedience to God (“the practical application of the preached word of God”). It is for this reason, that we need God’s wisdom (Jesus) and not our own to live a righteous life.

Jeroboam – Knowing to do right and still disobeying God brings certain destruction.

Rehoboam – Youthful wisdom that shuns the advice of elders can lead to bad decision-making.

Ahijah – Each of us is a prophet who can warn others that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.
