“Faces of Freedom” What is a President? Introduce all Presidents Who are the Founding Fathers? A-Analyze Learners o The age range of students in my class is 10-11. o 12 students are female; the other 8 students are male. o The students are in 5 th grade. o 2 students in my class have ADHD. S-State Objectives o On the first day of the “Meet the Presidents” unit the students will be introduced to all the Presidents by looking at an image and receiving a list. The students will learn what the President’s duties are and what exactly it means to be President. The students will then get in groups and create a list of what makes a good President and how these attributes help the President perform his duties. The students will look at a poster and discover who the Founding Fathers. After seeing the poster a discussion will be prompted to learn more about the Founding Fathers. The students will be able to describe a president and his/her duties with 90% accuracy. S-Select Methods, Media, & Materials o The students will first be presented with a list of all the Presidents and also looking at an image with each President listed. The students will get in groups of 3-4 to make a list of what they think makes a good President. The students will then learn Presidential duties by listening to a Voki. After listening to the Voki we will have a class discussion on Presidential duties. The students will then write a paragraph of how the attributes of a good President helps he/she perform his/her duties. The students will turn these papers in after a discussion. Lastly, the students will be presented with a poster

o The students will obtain knowledge about the Founding Fathers, presidential duties, and the names of the presidents. They will first be presented with a list and image of each President. Then they will get in groups to list attributes they think make up a good president. After this they will listen to a Voki, discuss presidential duties, and write a paragraph on how good attributes help the President preform his/her duties.

R-Require Learner Participation

o The students will be required to participate in a class discussion about presidential duties and good presidential attributes. They will also be required to demonstrate their knowledge of this by writing a paragraph on how good attributes helps the President perform his/her duties.

E-Evaluate & Revise

o At the end of class the students will be required to earn a “ticket out the door” by stating a fact of what they learned today. The student can list the Founding Fathers, list presidential duties, tell about a president, or tell about attributes—just to name a few.
