All satellite services in 3.7-4.0 GHz received in lower 48 states will be relocated to 4.0-4.2 GHz to allow for 5G
cellular in the cleared portion of the C-band
• Completed in two phases
– Phase 1: 12/5/2021 3.70 - 3.82 MHz relocated (middle of transponder 06C)
– Phase 2: 12/5/2023 3.82 - 4.00 MHz relocated (middle of transponder 15C)
• Impacts to HITS network
– Relocation from SES-11 at 105 W to AMC-11 at 131 W (from 11 to 6 transponders)
– Launch of new satellite, AMC-11R, to replace AMC-11 (which is nearing end of design life)
– Seeding of antennas where needed to access AMC-11 / AMC-11R (Sept-Nov 2020)
– Upgrading HITS network via video compression and higher-order modulation (MPEG4 / 16 APSK)
Comcast Technology Solutions Confidential & Proprietary8
Registered earth stations (i.e., antennas) receive following benefits:
• 5G interference rejection filters
• Equipment needed to receive relocated services (e.g., antennas as necessary)
• IRDs for upgraded HITS services
FCC released the final Registered Earth Station List on 8/3/2020; list is available at:

ILLUMINATION
The new Harmonic system will be on AMC-11 on 6 TPs in parallel to the existing system
XOS IRDs will be shipped to each site and then the transition will be coordinated
The number of XOS units, will be based on the the number of HITS QSD/QHDs
received today. Each XOS IRD can output up to 3 QAMS - any of the HD or SD QAMs
QSD1 QSD1, QSD5, QSD7 QSD1 QSD1, QSD4, QHD5
QSD5 QSD4
QSD7, QSD8 QHD5
QSD10
Today Tomorrow Today Tomorrow
QSD8, QSD10, (spare)
Comcast Technology Solutions Confidential & Proprietary20
ILLUMINATION
For activation, each unit must be wired to the AMC-11 dish (V and H).The IP management ports connected and wiring of the ASI or IP video output ports in place
For the actual transition, you will then need to call in and confirm the serial number of
each XOS and associate them with the relevant QSDs or QHDs for each IRD.
From there, the entire configuration will be transmitted OTA to the IRDs
Harmonic professional services may provide additional installation services based on
the survey responses upon approval by SES and HITS
The XOS can support additional features like H.264/AVC pass through and even
custom QAMS. These will be evaluated for rollout post the initial transition
