To provide a more structured, balanced and equal games based opportunity for Players to play Hurling up to and including minor level at club, Primary & Post Primary schools through Coaching & Games

Key to obtaining Objectives

• Recruit more coaches and provide more coach education opportunities & workshops

• To create a better link with the Hurling Development within the county• To create more Games/Blitzes at Club & School level for teams to enter• To increase greater participation in Hurling with existing clubs • To get Hurley’s into children’s hands that have never played before• To increase the profile of Hurling & Promotion in Clubs & Schools• To encourage Hurling Clubs to be more cooperative & supportive to the

Introduction – Process So far • Initial Meeting with Hurling Mentors in Arklow• Club/School Forum• Cumann na mBunscoil committee meeting • Post Primary School Committee Meeting• Meeting Full time coaching staff • Creating of a County Hurling Support Group • First meeting of Hurling Support group – with Hurling Mentors • Meeting of Hurling work group to develop and select three areas to plan and

appoint three work groups • Meeting to review work carried out by workgroups • Compiling a template based on action plans organised by the three work groups• Meeting with Hurling Mentors to discuss Hurling actions in the three selected

areas• Agree plan in consultation with Hurling Mentors • Present plan/actions to County Board and Juvenile Clubs• Continue to implement & Monitor action plans over the course the year

Action Plan 1. Cross border leagues

• Committee spoke to Lester Ryan & County Games Managers in the Following Counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Kildare, Laois and Dublin about entering cross border leagues.

• These blitzes/leagues will be organise for ages 16 and Minor grades

• Wicklow will host cross border blitz in a number of clubs for under 16 teams and again for Minor teams. For these two blitzes which Wicklow will host, each team be given a trophy/Hurley to give to the Club player of the tournament along with providing food etc..

• Wicklow teams or select regional teams from county squad taking part in Buffers Alley & Castletown 9 aside U/14 Indoor Hurling Tournament in October/November 2012

Dates: Saturday 10.30am – 1.00pm 28th April, 19th May, 30th June, 21st July, 25th August, 22nd September and 13th October

1. Use a central venue for the duration of the school dates. e.g. Aughrim county grounds

2. Clubs within a certain area to make contact with each other with a view to putting on a bus to transport all players.

3. A coordinator to be appointed to each of those areas to promote the idea and co-ordinate the transport in the Larger towns like Bray, Greystones, Kilcoole & Wicklow

4. Colourful and attractive posters with all the school dates to be put up in all schools, clubs and public notice boards with contact no's for local coordinators , also when possible Don Hyland to visit some of the schools to promote same.

5. Get Names, Numbers & Emails of Mentors over under 12 & 14 teams to text and Email out details of this Programme to increase attendance and encourage mentors to attend.

6. Possibly have one of the dates outside of the County....Nowlan Park /Wexford Park and photo to be taken

7. Kids to be given a T-shirt (county colours) and a ball at the last camp date.

8. Group and some individual action photos to be taking during coaching days and submitted to papers and Wicklow web-sites and also sent to Clubs for their own use and also to Wicklow Year Book

9. Link with Carlow for Cross border games & Coaching as part of the Don Hyland Programme

• Get more schools competing in the Indoor Hurling Leagues

and teachers are involved in the Organisation & Promotion • Group the Arklow Schools, Bray Schools and Blessington, St. Kevin’s & Scoil

Chonglais to enter a Combined Hurling team in County Post Primary school fixtures.

• Organise a Hurling Workshop for all Primary & Post Primary teachers in conjunction with George O Connor

• Organise more Local Hurling Blitzes for Primary & Post Primary Schools by Using the Astro turf in Blessington, Bray, Greystones and Arklow.

• Organise guest players to visit schools with the Liam McCarthy Cup promoting Hurling (contact Kilkenny)

• Indentify and select a Venue in Wicklow to promote the Leinster GAA Road show to promote Hurling

• The Three areas were selected by our County Hurling Support Group – this Group were then divided into workgroups

• To devise ideas and suggestions on how we can develop this plan.
