BAPTISM SAVES US“There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience

toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” 1 Peter 3:21

Baptism has nothing to do with a physical cleansing

15

The Power In Baptism Is Not The Water, But Through The Resurrection!

To contend that baptism is not necessary is to cast insult upon the resurrection!

Bible Baptism Saves the Soul

“There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience

toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” 1 Peter 3:21

16

We are forgiven of our sins (Acts 2:38).We are put into Christ (Acts 2:38; Gal. 3:27; Romans

6:1-6) and his body (I Corinthians 12:13). We call on the name of the Lord and our sins are

washed away (Acts 22:16).

Therefore, at baptism…

We are saved through an appeal to God for a good conscience (by our obedience to what God has asked of us we then have a good conscience) through the cleansing blood of Jesus and the

resurrection of Jesus from the dead (I Peter 3:21).

17

An appeal of a good conscience toward God, 1 Peter 3:21

We appeal to God for salvation

Blood cleanses our conscience, Hebrews 9:14

Blood is contacted in baptism, Romans 6:3

Boldly enter God’s presence, Hebrews 10:19, 22

Without baptism the appeal to come before God & be saved is denied!

An appeal of a good conscience toward God, 1 Peter 3:21

We appeal to God for salvation

Blood cleanses our conscience, Hebrews 9:14

Blood is contacted in baptism, Romans 6:3

Boldly enter God’s presence, Hebrews 10:19, 22

Without baptism the appeal to come before God & be saved is denied!

Therefore, our baptism is…

18

We “put on Christ” (Galatians 3:27). We are “buried with Christ” and “baptized into

His death” and rise to live a new life (Romans 6:2-4).

This must be the time when Jesus’ blood covers our sins (note how it is through the blood of Christ that we have redemption in

Ephesians 1:7 and Matthew 26:28;

Therefore, at baptism…

19

We are “united” or “grown together” or become “at one with”

(sumphutos) Christ and our old self is crucified

with him (Romans 6:5).

20

We are buried with Him, we were spiritually circumcised, we put off the old nature which was offensive to God, and

we were raised with Him through our faith in the power of God, were made alive with Christ and forgiven our sins

(Colossians 2:11-13).

We are no longer offensive to God after baptism.

21

Therefore, at baptism…• Baptized into death of Christ, Romans

6:3–We obtain the benefits of His death

• Romans 5:8-10 By His blood we are…–Justified

–Saved from wrath–Reconciled to God

22

• Baptized into death to sin, Romans 6:4-7 One dies to sin

–Body of sin is done away, 6:6-7 (Colossians 2: 11-12)

–Dead to sin & alive unto God (6:11)• When we “died with Christ” (6:8)

• When “baptized into death” (6:4-5)–Newness of life after baptism, 6:4

• Baptized into death to sin, Romans 6:4-7 One dies to sin

–Body of sin is done away, 6:6-7 (Colossians 2: 11-12)

–Dead to sin & alive unto God (6:11)• When we “died with Christ” (6:8)

• When “baptized into death” (6:4-5)–Newness of life after baptism, 6:4

23

We are given the promise that we will live with Him: “Now if

we died with Christ we will also live with Him” (Romans 6:8). Hence we are assured of our

own resurrection in the future.

Therefore, at baptism…

24

We are born again (born from above), John 3:3-5.

We receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38) who renews us and saves us through His

“sanctifying work” (2 Thessalonians 2:13).

25

• We are Baptized into one body, the church, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

–Added together, Acts 2:41–Added by the Lord, Acts 2:47–Added by obeying the Spirit’s

command to be baptized, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

command to be baptized, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
