Did the Group meet its objectives in 2016?Considering the recurrently low levels of investment in infrastruc-ture in France and the ongoing in-stability in our worldwide markets, our performances are quite satis-factory. Our ambition is to improve even more so as to stay in the race against international competition which is getting stronger. Our Group did better than merely “resist”, as it recorded growth of 9.3%, surpassing the one-billion- euro mark in managed turnover, while it also posted more than €30 million in distributable net profit, which is up on 2015. As re-gards the order intake for engineer-ing, it represents approximately a year of turnover and has main-tained our order book at about 20 months of turnover.
Are these good results a sign of a new impetus for the Group?Absolutely. They are the result of us mobilising behind our strategic objectives and they are an indica-tion that we are on the right track to meeting them. Combining or-ganic growth and external growth, we aim to attain a turnover of €2 billion in five years from now and we want to consolidate our po-sitions by becoming one of the top five worldwide engineering firms of European origin. The challenge is there and we are determined to meet it!
How do you go about achieving this sort of ambition?Egis has adopted a strategic plan entitled “Imagine” which will sup-port the development of the Group over three years. The idea behind this plan, as the name suggests, is to collectively imagine our future and plan for it all together. We see it as a chance to reassert our values and our vocation, but also to step up our collective commitment, thanks to increased management involvement at all levels. Through this corporate programme, Egis will continue to de-velop internationally, but will also have the chance to develop new ser-vices, increase its cross-group cooper-ation and innovate both technically and commercially.
How is reasserting Egis’s values a major strategic issue for the Group’s future? To move forward, we have to all mo-bilise behind a clear vision of what we are and what we want to become. This is why it is so important to re-mind all around us about our values, which are those of a people-first, responsible and creative company, because it is precisely these values which make up our identity. They are deeply rooted in Egis’s his-tory and are the ultimate uniting element and the focal point for our 13,800 employees who work hard for the Group all over the world. They are also an indication of trust and reputability to our clients and partners, who perceive them as the guarantees of integrity and profes-sionalism which they are looking for. Finally, our values are our best assets to set about meeting the major chal-lenges in the world around us. When we talk about a creative company, we mean our ability to innovate and in-geniously transform ideas into tangi-ble and operational solutions which most of all are useful to our clients. We also want a people-first company which is fully aware that its princi-pal asset is that of the women and men which make it up and enable it to prosper. Finally, Egis also pledges to be a responsible company all over the world in its action, its commit-ments and towards its stakeholders by adopting a highly demanding corporate social responsibility policy,
" Egis embraces transitions as a series of opportunities to imagine and design the world of tomorrow. "
" The Imagine project must enable us to change scale in the coming years."
most notably in the field of business ethics, which are intended to be be-yond reproach in all areas.
The world’s acceleration and the major transformations underway in our society are a source of considerable uncertainty … do you share this view?Uncertainty about the future is of-ten perceived as a major problem and a worry. I think we should be adopting a different attitude by wel-coming change, complexity and con-straints as opportunities. Because constraints, just as much as the free-dom of enterprise, are an integral part of our identity as engineers.
“The mind uses its faculty for creativity only when experience forces it to do so,”as Henri Poincaré said in his time. Beyond the apprehensions that they might generate and which I fully understand, the changes underway in our societies are also fantastic le-vers to innovate, act upon the world and become the masters of our own destiny.
What answers can engineering contribute to this world on the move?Egis embraces the energy, ecology, digital and regional transitions as a series of opportunities to imagine and design the world of tomorrow. These major transformations un-derway that we are accompanying constitute a source of performance, differentiation and competitiveness which is essential for our Group. Through the missions entrusted to us by our clients, we are fortunate to work in a wide range of services and markets which contribute to tackling the major challenges of the planet. This is our vocation, it’s what gives meaning to our work. We draw on our skills and our ability to manage complexity to provide the most suit-able solutions to the requirements which we are handed every day.Nowadays, there are still massive requirements for infrastructure in the widest sense of the word: 1,000 billion dollars per year according to the World Bank! And yet these requirements vary widely by coun-try. In developed economies such as France, the energy transition and optimising of the use of existing infrastructure are the markets of the future. However, in emerging economies, the growth and well-be-ing of populations heavily rely on the creation of all sorts of new in-frastructure. Our Group, which is already well-established outside of France (63 % of our activity) is going to develop further internationally and will continue to expand. And of course we still remain very attached to our business in France and to all the opportunities arising in our ser-vices. Because, fundamentally, Egis strives to respond to all of its clients, wherever they are in the world, with the same high standards, proximity and efficiency which have forged its reputation.

The structure, built as part of plans to extend the Strasbourg light rail network to Germany, won the 2016 French National Engineering Award.
“This metallic bridge with a through-arch supports a curved suspended deck measuring 163 metres between abutment centres. It is the result of highly integrated design between the architect and the engineers, combin-ing technical requirements with the bridge’s aesthetic vision. It reflects a desire for simplicity and the aim of making the bridge elegant, in keep-ing with the project for the future development of the area.”
Modelling your requirements
Building Information Modelling (BIM) represents a change in the way we develop our projects. To deliver this change in all of the ar-eas of the firm, Egis put together a methodology guide called the BIM Toolkit. The “7 golden rules” offer a common base in terms of BIM to pro-ject teams. With this BIM handbook, Egis assembles its unique experience acquired on the Doha Expressways in Qatar, the Grand Paris Express, the Rennes metro, the L2 bypass in Marseille and several million square metres of buildings, for the use of its partners and for the benefit of its clients.
In July, a day entitled “InnovDay” provided an opportunity to lay the foundations of a new innovation ecosystem based on removing inter-nal barriers, engaging with partners, cooperating with start-ups, chal-lenge competitions, etc. In Novem-ber, a special event day devoted to the Creative value, featuring short workshops and meetings between employees, was organised concur-rently in France and other countries around the world and enabled peo-ple to become familiar with innova-tions “made in Egis”. The Group also introduced a young task force, the “New Bees Team”, whose main mis-sion is to challenge the new ideas suggested by employees, innovative projects in disruption with our usual models, and the new systems that we are considering.
Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the Duo Towers, with a structure conceived by Egis, will constitute the largest mixed-use commercial property in France, comprising offic-es, retail space, a hotel, restaurants, a panoramic bar and an auditorium spanning 105,000 sqm. The size of the project, its technical complexity and its architectural quality earned a MIPIM Award in the category “Best Mega futura Project.”* Architecture award presented at each annual edition of the real estate event MIPIM.

Imagine solar panel-clad rooftops, positive en-ergy buildings and clean vehicles in the streets. This is what the City of Lights could look like by 2050! This scenario of a “carbon neutral” capital draws on an extensive foresight pro-ject conducted by Egis’s teams at the request of Paris City Hall.
Is carbon neutrality really feasible by 2050?Yes, it means a change of era which will require efforts in all areas, maintained over time. To achieve carbon neu-trality, you have to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emis-sions as much as possible (-70% compared to now, the equivalent of almost 5% per year); undertake compen-sation initiatives (using wind and solar power beyond city boundaries: -10%), and of course capture and store the remaining emissions (-20%) in the same way as our forests do over a surface area of 9,000 km².
What are the most notable measures relating to this challenge? We recommend for example fitting roofs with six million square metres of solar panels, renovating up to 75% of current housing and creating 150 hectares dedicated to urban agriculture. Our project also recommends halving the per capita waste rate and the number of cars on the roads, with a huge shift to electric vehicles by 2050. The content of our plates and how we feed ourselves are also critical.
Converting former office space to housing? This is now possi-ble with REVERSE, a property re-versibility tool designed by Egis to facilitate the site conversion process. REVERSE assesses an asset in view of its environment to make better use of it!
Sobre is the outcome of the shared desire of Poste Immo, the Caisse des Dépôts and Egis to create a solution contributing to energy transition. Easy to use and implement, this dynamic tool, designed for commercial real estate to monitor building energy perfor-mance, combines the artificial intel-ligence of its predictive algorithms with the behavioural intelligence of users.
Egis is continuing to raise all of its employees’ awareness to the “Safety Attitude”. Through an online training course, the major occupa-tional health and safety principles were reiterated and reasserted in 2016. Egis also received a distinction in Qatar for reaching 20 million work hours without a single lost-time accident on the Gold Line project of the Doha metro. This was the result of unprecedented commitment by teams towards safety and “zero harm”.
Within the framework of a skills do-nation project, Egis and Icade are con-tributing to plans to renovate a new accommodation and care facility for the social welfare body Paris Samu Social, located in the Charles Foix hos-pital in Ivry sur Seine. This charitable initiative involving their employees will provide aid to the underprivileged.
Egis and R20 (a non-profit NGO) teamed up to create a pre-invest-ment fund dedicated to sustainable waste management and the devel-opment of Waste-to-Energy projects. This partnership will prepare the different upstream actors (nation-al and local governments, industry and investors) to take the decisions necessary for the development of concrete projects, allowing the sus-tainable waste management market to reach maturity.

" To successfully deploy BIM, Egis has set up a comprehensive training curriculum covering both production tools and project management. On average, around 6,000 hours of training are invested each year to accompany this major transition which affects all of our services. Our priority is to sustain our proficiency in production tools at the very highest level, and accelerate the training of project management teams in incorporating BIM requirements and processes."
SUPPORTING MOBILITY
Every year, we provide the best possible sup-port to employees working on assignments outside our borders, also making sure we welcome new arrivals appropriately. In 2016 the French market experienced mixed fortunes: in terms of human resources, we fulfilled needs both for staff redeployment and for substantial recruitments on major projects.
New Group agreement on employment planningA job function observatory has been intro-duced to provide better insight into how requirements are likely to evolve, plan the necessary staff support and recommend measures to encourage mobility (geograph-ical and/or between jobs).
PREPARING FOR NEW JOB SPECIALITIES
Egis has firmly committed itself to the dig-ital transformation! We are continuing to pursue our training efforts in new jobs re-lating to BIM (Building Information Mod-elling), in particular those of BIM manager, BIM coordinator and BIM modeller, whose expertise is increasingly sought-after in projects and by our clients.

" At the beginning of 2016, the three companies acquired by Egis in Brazil merged to form a single entity. The “Imagine Managing Tomorrow” programme is a catalyst to develop the new corporate culture at Egis Brazil by uniting everyone behind Egis’s values while factoring in the Brazilian environment and challenges. Imagine Managing Tomorrow has enabled us to deploy management principles based on results, whether of a technical, economic or commercial nature, or in the field of team development."
" Combining classroom sessions and e-learning tools, the Managerial Excellence curriculum is a long training course delivered in English which aims to prepare Egis’s management for the necessary developments in the company in the coming years. With its first session taking place in Dubai and around fifteen participants from all over the world, the international scope of our Group was in clear evidence! I am proud to have taken part in a course at this level, which contained a lot of theory but with enough practical content to enable us to immediately implement what we learned in our everyday jobs."
ENHANCINGMANAGEMENT QUALITY
To improve employee engagement, “Imagine Managing Tomorrow”, an ambitious plan to develop managers’ individual skills, has been deployed across the Group, including internationally. This plan has resulted in :
■ the formalisation of our managerial commitments and the corresponding skills guidelines,■ the progressive implementation of assessment, training or support actions, both collectively (co-development) and individually (training, coaching) for all managers.
FACILITATING SKILL ACQUISITION
Good talent management is above all a question of suitable training which should cater to both the company’s skill requirements and the individual wishes of employees in their careers.
This year our Egis Campus university launched the second edition of our “Managerial excellence” course, focussing on international subsidiaries and aiming to prepare the Group’s future senior executives.
A course entitled “Guarantee” was also developed to reinforce managerial abilities and support teams in managing projects. It was followed by around a hundred employees in France and worldwide.

Close to our clients and fulfil

Agileand capitalise
on our Group status
Reactive and seize on opportunities

Looking at the current state of the market, how can you guarantee your Group a momentum of growth in the long term?On a worldwide scale, markets such as rail, buildings or aviation are growing fast. We must take advan-tage of this dynamic to become one of the world leaders in these areas. With regard to urban and interurban rail, the high order intake that we recorded in 2015 and 2016 has con-firmed our ability to attain and even surpass our organic growth targets. This is the case notably in France with the award of the infrastructure EPCM contract on line 15 East and the system extensions on Grand Par-is Express, and also outside France with the West Midlands light rail network in the United Kingdom. In the buildings business line, the Group is developing a very high-end service proposition abroad which re-quires complete proficiency in archi-tectural design, and we have opened an office in London to be able to work more closely with the most highly-re-nowned British architects. As for aviation, a large number of joint assignments in project or con-struction management have been
started up with Projacs, our project management subsidiary in the Mid-dle East, in this highly dynamic sec-tor for the region. The Group also wishes to position itself as one of the leading operators of mid-sized airports.
Competition is fierce. How does Egis deal with this?In 2016, we succeeded in improv-ing our operational performance in the majority of our business lines in France and abroad. This is a source of confidence for our clients, our partners and our employees. A high-performance firm is one which is capable of investing and at-tracting the best talent. In markets which are considered to be more competitive, we seek to stand out from the crowd. For exam-ple, through our knowledge in the most recent water treatment pro-cesses, or by using BIM to conduct safety audits on road projects. We have to engage in a shift from tra-ditional urban planning to designing cities of the 21st century. Winning the Smart City contract in Bhubane-swar in India shows us where the fu-ture lies for our urban development services.
Egis is developing increasingly internationally Does this mean that most opportunities lie outside France? Our international expansion is re-flected in our increasing number of establishments in countries where we have sustainable activity, close to our clients. This is the case in India, Brazil and the Middle East which collectively employ more than 3,300 people and where we wish to multiply our business by two in the space of three years. We are also con-tinuing to develop rationally in the rest of the world; in North Africa or the rest of Africa where we have strengthened our roots in Kenya and Cameroon, but also in Asia which offers considerable development opportunities for our Group. In the Americas, excluding Brazil, a lot of work is going into development in Mexico for example. France continues to be the country in which we have the most proxim-ity, thanks to our history and our culture. In 2016 we recorded good growth figures here. It will always be crucial to be strong in our historical market in order to remain credible internationally.
Interview" We have established a road map for 2018 linking in
with our project for the future, “Imagine”, the first step of our ambition to become one of the top 5 worldwide
engineering firms of European origin. "

Is this proximity to which you refer to a guarantee of success in delivering projects? What our clients expect of us is both technical expertise and service prox-imity. Our ability to work across the Group between our services, mar-kets and local offices is a major as-set which lies at the centre of our strategy. Egis’s agility is to know how to work as a team, encouraging internal cooperation for the benefit of the project. Our employees are fully aware that this is our leading strength.
New markets are emerging in the areas of Energy and Digital Economy. Is the Group ready to seizethese opportunities?Considering the changes happen-ing in the world around us, we are engaged in a race! Being reactive means being able to seize on these opportunities. The energy and ecolo-gy transition of course, by investing for example in the area of renewa-ble energy which in the future will be produced and consumed locally, and this backs up our legitimacy and credibility on this market. This is why we have a three-year plan to treble our turnkey services and new services in urban development, en-ergy and mobility. These areas offer
" The five strategic prioritiesthat we have set ourselves in 2016 aim to make Egis more dynamic, high-performance, closer to its clients, more agile and more reactive."

high potential for growth and em-ployment, and we have already start-ed down this path with the heating networks in Paris-Saclay, Lyon and Rueil-Malmaison. The digital revolution also heralds the arrival of connected and smart cities, and this is why we already have a very extensive service range in mobility or smart parking, as well as highly innovative approaches such as reducing traffic peaks, which in France has received outstanding media coverage.Being reactive also means anticipat-ing how our services will change and staying at the forefront in the utili-sation of BIM (Building Information Modelling), and digital engineering, which are already revolutionising our work methods and the way we design our projects.
BuildingsEgis designs, develops and oversees the construction of building projects of all types: offices, housing, concert halls, hospitals and stadia.
More than 600 Egis employees work on our clients’ pro-jects in France, Europe, Africa, Brazil, the Middle East, India and Asia. By 2020, through external acquisitions and the development of our design and project manage-ment teams, our Building activity aims to become one of the global top 15 engineering firms.
