B. SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS1. SPACE PACKET PROTOCOL WG

Goal: Review and revise Space Packet Protocol as a result of restructuring.

Working Group Status: Responding to ballot comments

Working Group Summary Situation:

Working Group Summary progress:

• WG to resolve comments received on GB review.

• On publication WG will raise a resolution to dissolve.

• Need SIS/SLS joint meeting to resolve comments.

Problems and Issues:

• Conflict between AOS and Conventional TM/TC uses of Path/AP id identified in Green Book review.

status: OK CAUTION PROBLEM

comment: CESG review of GB complete: many comments related to semantics of APID

2. UNACKNOWLEDGED CFDP EXTENSIONS WG

Goal: Extend CFDP to support unacknowledged operation in the presence of out of order data arrival.

Working Group Status: Was moribund, dissolution approved by CESG.

Working Group Summary Situation:

Working Group Summary progress:

• SIS-R-0504-002(UCE-R-0504-001) approved by CESG on 12 May 2005. CMC resolution CMC-R-0506-001 approved publication.

• CESG-R0905-11(SIS-R-0905-001)(UCE-R-0905-001): motion to dissolve working group approved 3 October 2005 by CESG.

Problems and Issues:

• None. Adios!

status: OK CAUTION PROBLEM

comment: Going, going, gone.

3. CFDP INTEROPERABILITY TESTING WG

Goal: Complete CFDP SFO and Extended Procedures interoperability testing

Working Group Status: Active _X_ Idle ____

Working Group Summary Situation:

Working Group Summary progress:• Group met at JPL for interoperability testing (in lieu of Atlanta).• Extended procedures nearly fully validated. SFO 50% validated. A further

campaign @ JPL to complete by end CY 2005• Two pink sheet issues identified so far: Src/Dst ID in hex, not ASCII; intermediate

file naming conventions in SFO. • One full day of meeting room support is required for next cycleProblems and Issues:• Dick Carper’s contract is up. Max Ciccone has agreed to take over the group.

CESG resolution being formulated to this effect for CMC approval. • ITAR

status: OK CAUTION PROBLEM

comment: WG chair changing.

3. CISLUNAR SPACE INTERNETWORKING WG

Goal: Design a communications architecture for cislunar and possible Mars in-situ environments; update existing CCSDS standards to reflect recent advances in telecommunications.

Working Group Status: Active _X_ Idle ____

Working Group Summary Situation:

Working Group Summary progress:• Met with representatives from high rate uplink BoF / space link services to discuss implications

of space links and CDMA on cislunar architecture.

• Reviewed new and revised text for Green Book Sections. Target date December 2005.

• Discussed details for follow-on Red Book on IP Infrastructure.

• 2 meeting room days required in next meeting cycle. Probably an additional ½ day for coordination with RF/Modulation (space link / high rate uplink) and ½ day joint security.

Problems and Issues:• Cislunar touches on a broad range of subjects. Careful coordination is needed to try to insert

cislunar concerns into other areas and to ensure that cislunar doesn’t duplicate work in other areas. Cislunar has started a liaison with data link layer representatives, and needs to coordinate with the security working group.

• Need IP-over-CCSDS implementation to begin testing. There are currently very limited implementations of IP-over-CCSDS to support such testing. Support will be needed to support implementations and interoperability testing.

status: OK CAUTION PROBLEM

comment: Active participation from NASA and ESA, some participation from BNSC and CSA

5. ASYNCHROUS MESSAGING SERVICE WG

Goal: Review concept paper, develop consensus for White Book by 12/05

Working Group Status: Active

Working Group Summary Situation:

Working Group Summary progress:• Cross area meeting with MOIMS/SMC – agreement that AMS is suitable,

demonstrated prototype implementation of SMC messages carried by AMS

• Protocol enhancements agreed

• 4 meeting room days required in next meeting cycle. (Atlanta attendees: 6 per day, ~20 in joint MOIMS meeting)

• Implementation plans: NASA writing, JPL implement, MSFC test; ESA – CMC budget for 2nd implementation

Problems and Issues:

• None

status: OK CAUTION PROBLEM

comment: WG Kicked Off

6. IP over CCSDS Links BOF

Goals:

• Clearly articulate the need to transfer IPv4 and IPv6 datagrams over the four underlying internationally standardized CCSDS link layer protocols

• Describe the standard CCSDS options for carrying IP datagrams within those CCSDS frames, including the mode where those IP datagrams are encapsulated within a specific HDLC serial bit stream for interfacing with a COTS router.

BOF Status: Active X Idle ____

BOF Summary Situation: There is consensus to form a WG; NASA, BNSC and ESA will participate.

Need 1 day meeting room (est. 12 participants) early in week, ½ day joint Cislunar meeting, ½ day meeting room late in week (est. 12 participants)

CESG-R-2005-10-010 (SIS-R-2005-10-001) Approved 10/24/2005 to charter WG

status: OK CAUTION PROBLEM

comment: Draft WG charter approved by CESG

• Participated in SOIS workshop on 24 October to discuss TCONS/OBL strategy

• SIS/SLS joint resolution of SPP Green Book comments

• SIS/SLS joint resolution of encapsulation issues
