MATH 6

This course builds upon the foundational skills from elementary school involving computation of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Students delve deeper into graphs, measurement, ratios, percentages, geometry, and metric system. New skills are introduced, including integer operations.

MATH 7

Placement is based on MAP and eValuate scores, 6th grade math grades, placement test scores, and teacher recommendations.

This course reinforces and extends basic computational skills of all rational numbers (whole numbers, decimals, fractions). Students explore measurement (metric and standard), proportions, geometry, integers, and problem solving. New skills are introduced, including expressions and equations.

PRE-ALGEBRA

Placement is based on MAP and eValuate scores, 6th and 7th grade math grades, placement test scores, and teacher recommendations.

This course is designed to prepare students for algebra at the high school level. Emphasis is placed on mastery of basic skills, introductory algebraic concepts and problem solving skills. Students apply their knowledge of rational numbers with equations and expressions. They extend their skills in measurement, geometry, and integers.

ALGEBRA (HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT)Placement is based on MAP and eValuate scores, Pre-Algebra grades, placement test scores, and teacher recommendations.

Course is taken for high school credit and follows the common pacing of high school algebra.

Topics studied include variables, operations with integers, properties of equations, inequalities, operations with polynomials, factoring, algebraic fractions, simultaneous linear equations, irrational numbers, and quadratic equations. Students apply skills to solve real world problems.

In order to remain enrolled in Algebra, students must be willing to devote extra time and effort required by the level of difficulty and the amount of homework inherent to the program. All students in advanced math must exhibit proficiency (B- average, test mastery, and/or daily homework completion) in the course in order to be recommended for Geometry the following year. Students who do not meet the criteria will be allowed to drop the class by the end of first quarter and moved to regular eighth grade math (Pre-Algebra); this will permit students to successfully complete Algebra I in 9 th grade. If a student remains in Algebra past first quarter, the grade earned (A, B, C, D, or F) will be on their high school transcript. Additionally, students earning an F will not be allowed to move on to Geometry at the high school.

GEOMETRY(HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT)

Placement is based on MAP and eValuate scores, 6th and 7th grade math grades, placement test scores, and teacher recommendations.

Course is taken for high school credit and follows the common pacing of high school geometry.

This course focuses on applications of theorems, postulates, and definitions of geometry. Students study deductive proofs and what they involve. The curriculum builds upon arithmetic and algebra skills attained in previous math courses to extend toward visual representations.
