It is a good Catholic magazine angled especially for young adults to address contemporary issues and living our faith in today's world. Last week I read an address by Philadelphia's Archbishop Charles J. Chaput entitled "Strangers In A Strange Land." He stresses the importance of Roman Catholics maintaining their identity within the cultural and political realms. Being that this week we especially lift up the importance of respecting the dignity of all human life from conception to natural death, I thought you should have a few of his quotes to ponder and dare to talk over: "Finally, we come to our duties in the public square...we have serious obligations as believers to care for the poor, the immigrant, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Those duties belong personally to you and me, not just to the government...if we ignore the poor, we will go to hell. If we blind ourselves to their suffering, we will go to hell. If we do nothing to ease their burdens, then we will go to hell. Ignoring the needs of the poor among us is the surest way to dig a chasm of heartlessness between ourselves and God and between ourselves and our neighbors. And lest we forget: The poor include the unborn child. The abortion struggle hasn't suddenly disappeared. There are no human rights without a fundamental right to life. Abortion is the assassination of hope, the murder of a society's future. There's no way to contextualize or diminish the evil of a law that allows the killing of innocent, unborn human life. Nor is there any way for any Catholic to accept or ignore that kind of legalized homicide when it comes to decisions in the voting booth or anywhere else...We were made by God to receive love ourselves and to show love to others--love anchored in the truth about the human person and the nature of human relationships. That's our purpose. That's why we were created." Well, there you go...now where do we go from here? Go to heal hearts that have too many regrets that haunt, and for those who never felt anything. Go to restore our nation's call to protect all human life, especially those seen as worth nothing. Go to life. Go to love. Ad vitam aeternam, Fr. Bline (By the way, there's still a few more days to get your ticket to our Feast Day Dinner and Silent Auction to support our parish school...please support our kids so we may continue to teach them of real life in Jesus Christ. The reservation form is included in this bulletin. Wont you please join me?)

We will place your name on the list so the Crucifix can be presented to you during Mass on a given weekend or picked up at another convenient time in the sacristy or parish office.

Banns of Matrimony (III) Curtis Deibel and Elizabeth Beaver

Please keep in prayer the deceased, especially parishioner Rita Haag.

Also, Michael Nelisse, son of Dolores Nelisse, and Olga Fisher, mother of Robin Kulick. May perpetual light shine upon them.

The collection for January 11, 2015 was $14,161.00. Our parish is blessed by your generosity!

“Everything is Awesome

When You’re Part of a Team” School will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 19th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday. Due to the number of snow days, our report cards for 2nd quarter are being sent home on Thursday, January 22nd. Like all other schools in the state of Ohio, we are on number of hours this year and thus we will not have to make up any days at the end of the year unless we really end up with at ton of snow days. Our school day is over the minimum required daily attendance hours and thus we have a good bank of hours already built into our daily schedule to cover the snow days we have had. Catholic Schools Week is coming up very soon and thus we begin our re-enrollment and new enrollment process for next year. I would like to personally invite each of you to attend our upcoming Preview Breakfast and Open House event on January 29th at 10:00 a.m. in the Upper Room. This is an event held annually to introduce new families to our Parish School. Information, tours, and registration will take place at this event and breakfast will be served. If you or someone you know would like to attend, please RSVP to our school secretary, Kara Lloyd at 330-644-0638 by January 22nd. We would love to see you all there and show you what we have to offer. Have a blessed week!

Sincerely in His Service, Mrs. Sherry Parrish, Principal

CHURCH MICE

The Church Mice, our cleaning ministry, could use additional helpers on Monday mornings. Do you have an hour to spare? They meet after the 8:15 morning Mass each Monday, with the exception of the second Monday of the month when they meet after the Avila Holy Hour for vocations, roughly at 10:00. No skills are necessary, just the desire to help keep our church tidy. If interested, show up. You will be provided with on-the-job training!

"Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly.”

St. Francis de Sales

All parishioners are welcome and encouraged to help our St. Vincent de Paul group at the Ozanam Center located at Visitation of Mary Parish in Akron on Saturday, February 7, 2015. We will partner with Immaculate Conception and St. Barnabas parishes and work will begin around 9:30 a.m.

THE OZANAM CENTER

DESPERATELY NEEDS WOODEN FURNITURE! The Center is in most need of wooden furniture; chests of drawers, tables and chairs, etc. St. Francis parishioner Don McCabe will make arrangements with you to pick it up and deliver it to the Ozanam Center where it will be given to those in need in the area. The Center is really low on furniture! Please give Don a call at 330-882-0004. Maybe your son or daughter needs to get some service hours? Don could really use strong helpers. By the way – only furniture will be accepted; nothing with a cord can be picked up.
