Renewing Your Resolutions Traditionally , the ending of an old year and the beginning of a new one has been a time for people to “make new year’s resolutions,” usually involving discipline and diet. I would like to suggest that you renew resolutions that you perhaps made in the past or take some seriously for the rst time. I urge you to resolve to seek the Lord this season. On September 19, thousands of people ocked to Kaohsiung, Taiw an to see a 59-foot yellow duck. Dutch artist, Florentijn Hofman, created a gigantic version of the “Rubber Ducky” bath tub toy used by children. I hope that thousands will not only ock to worship services and Bible studies this year at our church, but will particularly , “seek the Lord while He may be found and call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6 ESV). May we also resolve to discover and do God’s will . The staff team and I are teaching in Band of Brothers about how to make good decisions in the will of God and to nd grace in the midst of a mess after bad decisions. “Decisions, Decisions” is not just a fact of life but a cry for help. Resolve to claim God’s promise, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go” (Psalm 32:8). I trust that we will also resolve to discover God’s blueprint for a happy home. In order to have “one nation under God,” we must have united homes under God’s lordship. As President Reagan said, “If we are not one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under!” Only three times in history has there been a complete disintegration of family ties – in 300 B.C., sophisticated Greek culture collapsed. By 300 A.D., the pleasure-loving yet powerful Roman civilization collapsed from within and then later from without. In t his new century, we are seeing families and the institution of marriage disintegrating before our very eyes, with more than half of our marriages ending in divorce and more than 50% of the world’s divorces taking place among less than 6% of the world’s population that live in the U.S. I urge all of our teenagers to be a part of Disciple NOW next week. Even if you are a Sunday morning attender as an adult, you need to hear one of our nation’s great young defenders of the faith, Sean McDowell, preach in the Saturday evening service. On Sunday morning, the winsome preacher-communicator, Chip Ingram, will preach and then lead a seminar on Sunday evening for our adults. On March 30, 2012, many of our men resolved before God to take full responsibility for ourselves, our wives, and our children. We afrmed: “I will love, protect, serve, and teach them the Word as the spiritual leader. I will be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her, and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me. I will bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, minds, and strength. I will train them to honor authority and live responsibly. I will confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy . I will pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion. I will work diligently to provide for the needs of my family. I will forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged. I will learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God. I will seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will. I will courageously work with the strength God provides to fulll this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory.”  Churchwide  Dr. Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor DNow Weekend January 17-19, 2014 Open registration now available through January for anyone in 6th grade - 12th grade. On this day, church volunteers will place Bibles in area high schools and make them available to students at no cost. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their faith and encourage fellow students to take a Bible.
