2009 Summer Institute 2009 Summer Institute Designing the Future June 16-18, 2000 Raleigh, NC www.newschoolsproject.org Rationale In addition to the Early College High School considerations, 1:1 schools have added sustainability challenges. Not only must they be able to tell the early college story with authenticity and credibility, they must also articulate how the addition of technology tools and resources enhances the early college experience while preparing their students in a 21st Century teaching and learning environment. 1:1 schools must plan how to articulate the need to sustain their unique programs, both the school and its technology resources and personnel. Outcomes (What do we want each team to know and be able to do?): Identify key community audiences critical for sustainability Identify key message elements to engage the community Identify key techniques for engaging the community and immersing the school into the community Have a clearer understanding of the structures and expectations within a typical IHE Have a clearer understanding of the structures and expectations within a Central Office Know five new strategies for working with internal communities Gather a list of ideas for infusing an Early College into a community targeted at their specific area of interest Share effective efforts at their schools Measures (How will we know?) The beginnings of a process to plan for school sustainability that can be shared and expanded upon when the team returns to the school A draft of a method of recording events/meetings held to advocate, communicate, and engage with partners Connections made with peers/networking directory Completed school message/presentation Sharing Session survey/evaluation results Supports (Activities to get us there) Review of self-assessment and other school data Use of expert in the field; facilitators to guide teams and pose questions, concerns, ideas; and colleagues to share ideas, strategies, and support Team/work time Examples and templates to be used for planning, tracking, and documenting contact efforts Materials and resources provided by principals/teams leading the sharing session
