Separate sealed bids for the Michelle Circle Repav-ing Project and the Brook-ton Woods Way Repaving Project will be received by the City of Dacula at Dacula City Hall until 2:00 PM lo-cal time on September 24, 2013. The Work to be completed for these Two Separate Proj-ects consist of furnishing all labor, materials, permits, construction operations, details, supervision and co-ordination of all trades, util-ity suppliers, governmental inspections and approvals to complete the construction, installation and coordination for the Repaving Projects and drainage improvements as follows:

1. R e p a v i n g Michelle Circle within the City Limits of Dacula as de-scribed below.

Michelle Circle is a residen-tial street off of Tanner Road that is deteriorating and is in need of repaving. The exist-ing pavement and subgrade shall be excavated 12-1/2 from edge of pavement at Tanner Road intersection to the back of the cul-de-sac at the end of the road ap-proximately 830 L.F +/-. The existing pavement section based on asphalt cores pro-vided by the City consists of approximately 4 of asphalt pavement over compacted dirt. The existing width of road is approximately 20 21 wide from edge of pave-ment to edge of pavement (EP/EP) with an irregular cul-de-sac which varies in width and diameter approximately 5060 wide at the end of the road. The Contractor shall replace the demolished section with 8 Graded Ag-gregate Base (GAB), 3 Type B Asphalt Binder Course, and 1-1/2 Type F Asphalt Surface Course. A Tack Coat shall be applied over GAB and Binder courses. The Contractor is required to proof roll the subgrade and GAB to demonstrate that compaction of 95% standard proctor is achieved.

The entrance to Michelle Circle from Tanner Road originally consisted of 2 lanes of pavement separated by a center island. The center island has been removed and the City has previously in-stalled approximately 1.5 of rock, 8 GAB, and 3 Binder over this area. The City de-sires to retain improvements in this area so the Contractor shall excavate around and mill the new pavement in this area 1-1/2 to be flush with the binder course over the remainder of the road. This area will be repaved with 1-1/2 Type F asphalt Surface Course when the Contractor tops the remain-der of the road. Contractor is responsible for measur-ing and identifying limits of repaired center island area w


which is clearly visible by the new pavement observed in this area. Center island and stop bar striping is required at the entrance as part of the scope of work.

Contractor is responsible for providing a flush tie-in with existing asphalt pave-ment at Tanner Road. The edge of pavement and tie-ins at driveways shall be tapered down to provide smooth transitions.

Contractor shall also de-molish and replace existing 12 RCP culvert crossing un-der the entrance of Michelle Circle adjacent to the edge of pavement at Tanner Road with a new 18 RCP culvert. Contractor shall utilize Gwin-nett County Bedding detail when installing new culvert. Safety End Section Headwalls shall be placed at both ends of new culvert. Existing ditch shall be re-graded to provide positive drainage into and out of new culvert. Rip rap shall be installed at each end of new culvert to provide outlet velocity dissipation and all disturbed areas of ditch shall be stabilized and permanent-ly grassed.

2. R e p a v i n g Brookton Woods Way within the City Limits of Dacula as described below.

Brookton Woods Way is a residential street in the Brookton Woods Subdivision that is deteriorating and in is need of repaving. The exist-ing pavement section based on asphalt cores provided by the City consists of ap-proximately 2 of asphalt pavement on top of 5 6 of graded aggregate base (GAB). The existing pave-ment (2) shall be removed and GAB excavated 1-1/2 for a total depth of 3-1/2 from edge of pavement at Brookton Lane intersection to the back of the cul-de-sac at the end of the road approximately 550 L.F +/-. The existing width of road is approximately 24 wide from edge of pavement to edge of pavement (EP/EP) not in-cluding the curb and gutter. The diameter of the cul-de-sac at the end of the road is approximately 75 wide.

Once the existing pave-ment and GAB is removed, the Contractor will then proof roll the GAB for compaction and achieve 95% standard proctor. The Contractor will then apply an asphalt tack coat, 2 of Type B Asphalt Binder followed by another layer of asphalt tack coat be-fore installing 1-1/2 Type F Surface Course. Contractor is responsible for providing flush tie-in with existing as-phalt pavement at Brookton Lane. All tie-ins at driveways shall be tapered down to pro-vide smooth transitions.

All quantities and measure-ments are approximate. Con-tractor shall visit the streets identified herein and deter-mine his own quantities for bidding these projects. Con-tractor is responsible for ver-ifying all lengths of roadway and quantities required to complete the asphalt replace-ment and repaving work for this project. Existing grades and crown of roadway shall be maintained to direct storm water towards the gutter and storm inlets as in the exist-ing condition. The streets shall be repaved to existing width. Cul-de-sacs will be repaved to existing diameter. Traffic safety devices such as signage, barricades, etc., and the protection of the public-at-large, and Contractors personnel is part of the Con-tracts and the Contractors sole responsibility. Contrac-tor must maintain one lane open (12 wide minimum for school bus access) at all times and provide access to all driveways and intersec-tions.

Bidder will prepare Asphalt prices for bids based on the current GDOT Asphalt Ce-ment Price Index listed at the time of bid opening. The successful Contractors pay request will list the current GDOT Asphalt Cement Price Index at the time of purchase. The difference in price be-tween the GDOT Asphalt Ce-ment Price Index at bid and at purchase will either be a change order to the Contrac-tor or a Credit to the Owner. The GDOT Asphalt Cement Price Index is in accordance with Special Provision (dated September 15, 2005), Sec-tion 400.5.01 Adjustments, the asphalt price index for the month of the Letting posted on the Georgia Department of Transportation Website.

There will be a Pre-Bid Conference for these projects held on Monday, September 16th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Dacula City Hall. It is strongly encouraged that all potential B
