General Installation Guidelines

The following guidelines must be observedwhen installing Danfoss heating cable mats.

Preparation

1. All traces of old floor covering must beremoved so that the concrete surface orthe floorboards are visible.

2. Clean the surface and remove any looseparticles.

3. The floor must be securely anchored toprevent it from shifting. Floor plaster isrecommended for wooden floors toprevent the formation of cracks in jointsand clinkers. The floor must be smooth inorder to prevent any damage to the heat-ing mat.

4. The floor must be primed.

5. Any gaps in the floor around outflowpipes, floor drains and doorsills, or nearthe outer edges where the floor screedmay penetrate, must be filled.

6. You are advised to draw up aninstallation plan before laying out themats. Use page 9 in this manual to draw up aplan.Remember to indicate the sensor tube, connection tails and the connection tothe cold cable.

NB!

Please consult the manufacturer for informa-tion on suitable temperatures if usingDanfoss heating cable mats 100 underwooden floors the concrete layer must notbe less than 5 mm on top of the cable.

Please note when using 2 mats!

The sensor must be positioned between thetwo mats as illustrated – this is important asit must be able to detect the temperature ofboth mats.

Installing the Danfoss heating cable mats

The heating mat should not be installed atroom temperatures below 5°C.

The heating mat must be installed in accord-ance with the installation instructions.

Roll out the mat on the primed floor with theadhesive side on the bottom and the heatingcable on the top.

Distribute the heating mat evenly across thefloor surface, avoiding areas where the matmay be squeezed or damaged by screws,e.g. from the toilet. The heating mat shouldlie flush against the surface and be securelyfastened to avoid any movement of the matwhen the floor screed is laid.

If the heating cable mat is rolled out towardsthe opposite wall, the mat will need to becut before being rolled back.

To do so, cut the mat material carefully with-out damaging the heating wire. Next, flip themat over and roll it back parallel to the firstlength of mat, etc.

DO NOT CUT THE CABLE ONLY THEMESH.

NB!The heating mat must not be shortened orexposed to mechanical stress.

The heating mat must not be fitted belowobjects that can produce heat, e.g. tumbledriers. Please observe care when installing the matand laying the screed in order to preventdamage to the heating mat.

When turning the heating mat just cut themesh. Do not cut the cable.

Test the heating mat in accordance with thetable on page 8 (resistance) before the screed is poured.

4

The flex tubing for the thermostat’s sensorshould be positioned so that the sensor islocated between the heating conductors ona clear patch of floor. A thermostat shouldalways control the heated area.

NB! Do not fit under cupboards, bathtubs, orsimilar.

NB! Please see text and illustration page 2 ifinstalling two mats on the same surface.

The flex tubing may be countersunk into thefloor to reduce the floor construction height.

Seal the flex tubing at the end so that thescreed cannot penetrate the tube.

The sensor cable and the cold cable for theheating mat should be connected to thethermostat box or directly to the thermostatlocated elsewhere in a convenient position,e.g. near your electric meter.

Test the ohm value of the heating mat beforeapplying the screed.

When covering the mat with screed, pleasefollow the manufacturer’s recommendationsas regards the drying time of the screed.

Humidity seals and floor coverings such asvinyl and wooden floors require all moisturein the screed, depending on the thickness,to have been eliminated fully in accordancewith the drying times recommended by themanufacturer.

The under floor heating must not be useduntil the screed has dried out fully, usuallyaround 28 days.

5

The mat should be tested as specified earlier before the floor covering is laid.

The installation should be equipped with acircuit breaker.

The heating cable mat is designed for underfloor heating purposes only.

The heating mat must be embedded.
