COLERIDGE'S DEFINITIONS OF HIS SPECIAL MEANING OF POEM, POETRY,

"A poem contains the same elements as a prose composition; the difference therefore must consist in a different combination of them, in consequence of a different object proposed.  According to the difference of the object will be the difference of the combination."

Poem: Many of his poems openly address a single figure the Speaker’s wife, son, friend and so-on who listen silently to the simple Language of the speaker.

His poems directly and deeply influenced all the major poetsof the age. The eight of Coleridge’s poem listed above are new often discusses as a group entitled “Conversation poems”.

Poetry of the highest kind may exist without metre and even without the contradistinguishing object of a poem.

Coleridge wanted to mimic the patterns and cadence of everyday speech in his poetry.

Cardinal points of poetry: The power of exciting of the reader by faithful adherence to the truth of the nature. The power of giving the interest of novelty by the modifying colors of imagination.
