BELARUS: First AidProject summary:The First Aid (FA) programme aims to increase the capacity of individuals, households and communities to prevent and cope with individual andsmall-scale emergencies (e.g. household accidents) and to mitigate their impact. The Belarus Red Cross (BRC) will further work towardsstrengthening their FA programme by improving the quality and relevance of the training, increasing the number of trainers and increasing theprogramme coverage. The FA programme is designed to incorporate aspects of accident prevention, HIV/AIDS prevention and promoting healthy
life-style within Belarus communities.
Achievements:In 2004, Belarus Red Cross launched a media coordinated campaign to attract new volunteers. These new volunteers have been trained asinstructors in first aid and will participate in courses on disaster response and psychological support, and as a result increase the disaster response/ first aid capacity of the National Society and the general public.
