God's essential nature is unchanging and unchangeable (Malachi 3:6; James 1:17),

God's law is adapted to man's needs, therefore specific laws have changed in different dispensations (Gen. 6-9; 17:10; Exo 20; Mat. 17:1-5; Heb. 1:1,2; 7:12).

There are principles behind the law God gave through Moses which will help us understand God and how to please Him. (Rom. 15:4; Gal. 3:24; 2 Tim 3:15)

1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image.

3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

5. Honor your father and your mother.

6. You shall not murder.

Deuteronomy 5:17-21

Exodus 20:13-17 (NKJV) 13 "You shall not murder. 14 "You shall not

"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 "You shall not covet your

neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his

female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."

The Law made a distinction between MURDER and MANSLAUGHTER – (Exodus 21:13; Deuteronomy 19:4-6)

Human life can only be taken intentionally by divine permission – (Exodus 21:12-17; Numbers 31:1-7; Eccl. 3:3)

Matthew 5:21-22 (NKJV) 21 "You have heard that it was said to

those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the

judgment.' 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother

without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his

brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!'

shall be in danger of hell fire.

The home was the first divine institution and is thus sacred - (Genesis 2:18-24)

God is faithful and keeps His covenants - (Deuteronomy 7:9).

God demands faithfulness in the most serious fleshly covenant we enter - (Prov. 2:15-18; Mal 2:13-14)

Marriage is a picture of Christ and His church – (Eph 5:22-33; 2 Cor. 11:2; Rev. 19:7,8; 21:2)

To put away someone for reasons other than fornication and marry another – (Mat. 19:9; Mark 10:11,12)

To marry someone who has been put away – (Mat. 5:32; 19:9)

To be in a marriage where one or both parties are still bound to another living spouse - (Rom. 7:1-3)

We live in a world where adultery is glorified, popularized – and presented as normal and fun.

Glorified in movies, soap operas, sitcoms, talk shows, books, magazines, internet materials, as well as music.

Common in the workplace and social and recreational organizations

Hebrews 13:4 (NKJV) 4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed

undefiled; but fornicators and

adulterers God will judge.

Adultery is a heinous crime against God and man –

Adultery destroys self, marriages, families, friendships and nations . . .

We MUST do all we can to prevent adultery – (Mat. 5:27-32; Prov. 5; 1 Cor. 6:18)

Both are degrading and heinous crimes against God and man –

Both are destructive to self, relationships and nations -

Both can be repented of and forgiven – (1 Cor. 6:9-11)
