Hometown nazareth: Where Jesus Was a KidJoin us the week of June 22 - 25 to experience a day at

Hometown nazareth, as we focus on Jesus as a child. Each day is filled with stations where kids and adults are trans-ported to Jesus’ hometown! Kids meet Mary and see firsthand God’s Word at work in a person’s life. God’s Word comes alive through engaging interaction with Bible history! We will have VBS T-shirts for the children! A closing ceremony

will take place on Thursday evening, June 25. Registration is now open and runs through June 5. Register on the church website, www.eastminsterpres.org.

Volunteers are needed! To volunteer to help with VBS this summer, e-mail Ashley, [email protected]. Worried about child care? The drop-in will be available at no cost to VBS volunteers.

needed: Letter LadiesDo you enjoy writing notes and letters? And mailing them the old-fashioned way? Then

the Prison Ministry needs you to join a group of Eastminster members already involved. This correspondence project within the Evangelism and Membership ministry seeks to match Christian letter writers with incarcerated women in US prisons who are screened first for eligibility and interest. Requirements are penning a note every other week, and desiring to share in writing about the love and hope of Christ with these women in jail. Questions? Email Annie Scott ([email protected]). Hebrews 13:3 says, “Remember those in prison as if you

were together with them . . .

presbyterian Women’s Honorary Membership Presbyterian Women honored two of their own with Honorary Membership during the

Sister’s In Christ luncheon on Tuesday, April 21: Betty Snyder, who joined Eastminster in 1966, and nancy Scott who joined Eastminster in 1965. Both ladies have been explanatory servants. Betty has served with the Kitchen Ministry, Prayer Shawl, Prayer Matters, Care Teams, as a Deacon, CE Committee, and Count Team, just to mention a few of her services. nancy has worked tirelessly with Worship Discovery for many years, Circle of Giving, an Elder, Clerk of Session, EPW Council, and Family Promise, to mention some of hers. Both ladies continue to serve faithfully and quietly in the background. Congratulations to each of these special ladies!

MAY 24 - August 910:00 AM - Jubilee service

10:15 AM - sAnctuArY 9:00 A.M. - sundAY school (8:45 Coffee & Fellowship Gathering)

A combined Adult sunday school class will meet in the Adult reception hall. This class begins May 24, and will be held in the Adult Reception Hall from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Dr. Durrett will take us on a journey through “The Life

and Letters of Paul: Gospel People and Places.” Some of the places we’ll visit are Damascus, Tarsus, Cyprus, Galatia, Athens, Corinth, Ephesus and Rome. We’ll meet Stephen, Ananias, Barnabas, Mark, Priscilla & Aquila and others. Mark will be using information from two books, In the Steps of St. Paul by Peter Walker and The Apostle by John Pollock. At this time there is no reading schedule, but if you would like a book, please e-mail Julie McDaniel ([email protected]) or call her (256-1654 ext. 143).

Mother’s Day Offeringon Sunday, May 10, Presbyterian congregations in the five presbyteries in South

Carolina will participate in a special offering benefiting Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC). The special offering is placed each year into a resident escrow fund at each of the resident campuses (Clinton, Lexington, Summerville, Flor-

ence, and Easley) and is used to help with monthly costs for those who have lived beyond their financial resources. In 2014 alone this important offering, combined with other gifts received, assisted Presbyterian Communities in providing over $1.5 million in charitable care for seniors. That is well over $4,000 each and every day to support elder members of our churches and communities who have out-lived the funds set aside for this purpose. Please use your separate pledge envelope marked Presbyterian Communities or write this offering name on the memo line of your check. Currently two EPC members, Bick Halligan and Robin Gorman, serve on the Board of Directors of the SC Presbyterian Retirement Communities Foundation.

Family promise Returns May 31- June 6Please save the date for your opportunity to serve this ministry. Family

Promise is a ministry that serves homeless families. Eastminster has joined 13 area churches to host these families four times a year, one week at a time. There are many volunteer opportunities, and all are family-friendly! Please contact Elizabeth Barber ([email protected]) or Lucy Corley ([email protected]) for any ques-tions, and watch for additional information coming soon!

Books for 4’sWe have a magnificent small group, and our mission/

project is reading and distributing books to the four year old child development classes in Richland one. In order to be admitted to these classes, the majority of the children are considered “at risk.” We intend to read to the class and then give a book to each child. Many of these children have no books at home. With so many children in need, we hoped to make it a project for the congregation to share.

We will have boxes placed in the church for collecting “gently used” books ap-propriate for a four-year-old and would love for each of you to look through the books in your home and share one or two with these children. Thank you! Liz Agee

and Becky Smythe
