2015 SPRING TRAINING REVIEWCACTUS LEAGUE…the Mariners completed Cactus League play with an 13-17-2 record (.438)…opened spring training 10-10-2 in first 22 games, but 3-7 over the final 10 games…ended the spring with consecutive wins over the Colorado Rockies in exhibition games…posted a 10-6 record in home games and 3-11-2 when the road team…had a 3-1 record in night games, compared to a 10-16-2 mark in day games.

SPRING SHUTOUTS…recorded a pair of shutouts during Cactus League play, 4-0 vs. Oakland (3/18) and 8-0 vs. Texas (3/22)…marked the first time since 2011 to record multiple spring shutouts (had 3 in 2011).

FIT FOR A TIE…recorded a pair of ties, March 17 at Chicago White Sox (5-5) and March 20 at Texas (4-4)…marks the seventh time in the last eight springs to record at least one tie…the Mariners now have 30 ties in spring club history (2 in regular season).

THE HITTERS…ranked 10th among American League teams with a .265 batting average…had the 5th-best slugging percentage (.439) and 7th-best OPS (.763)…recorded double-digits in hits in 16 of 32 games.

EXTRA-BASE HITS…ranked 3rd among American League teams and 5th in the Cactus League (7th overall in MLB) with 107 extra-base hits…recorded 59 doubles (10th in AL), 15 triples (1st in AL and 33 home runs (T3rd in AL).

TRIPLES…recorded 15 triples to lead the American League and rank 2nd in the Majors behind the Giants (19)…most triples in spring play since recording 20 in 2005…12 different players recorded at least one triple, led by two each by Austin Jackson, Brad Miller and Chris Taylor.

HOME SWEET PEORIA…went 10-8 at Peoria Stadium, including a 10-6 record in designated home games (0-2 in road games vs. Padres)…finished 3-11-2 when wearing the road gray pants.

ATTENDANCE RECORD…averaged 8,282 fans for 16 home dates at Peoria Stadium (132,519 total)…adding in the Padres home attendance of 106,328 (15 dates, 7,089 avg), Peoria Stadium broke their single-spring attendance record with a mark of 238,847…the old record was 230,662 set in 2002…Mariners total was most since 2005 (135,013) and 4th-most for Mariners spring training.

HAVE YOU SEEN MY BASEBALL…Mike Zunino led all American League players and ranked 2nd in spring play with 7 home runs…trailed only Chicago-NL’s Kris Bryant (9) for the spring home run lead…the 7 home runs tied for 2nd-most in Mariners spring history…Zunino also ranked amongst Cactus League leaders in slugging percentage (1st, .852), on-base percentage (6th, .435), total bases (5th, 46) and extra-base hits (T2nd, 13).

SPRING CY YOUNG…Taijuan Walker went 4-0 with a 0.67 ERA (2 ER, 27.0 IP) in 7 Cactus League starts…he had a scoreless streak of 19.0 consecutive innings by not allowing a run in his first 5 starts…Walker ended up ranking 2nd in the Cactus League in ERA, 4th in innings pitched, and T3rd with 26 strikeouts…he joined Jacob deGrom (NYM) and Daniel Norris (TOR) as the only pitchers to go 4-0 in spring training play.

SPRING ERA…Taijuan Walker recorded a 0.67 ERA in 7 spring starts, falling just short of the Mariners spring training record for lowest ERA (min. 20.0 IP) held by Matt Young who had a 0.44 ERA (1 ER, 20.2 IP) in 1983.

.300 HITTERS…Robinson Canó (.364/20x55), Mike Zunino (.352/19x54), Dustin Ackley (.347/17x49), Austin Jackson (.333/20x60), Willie Bloomquist (.317/13x41) and Nelson Cruz (.309/17x55) were all Mariners regulars to bat over .300 during Cactus League play.

ROOKIE OF THE SPRING…LHP Tyler Olson was named the Peoria Diamond Club Rookie of the Spring…Olson earned a spot on the Opening Day roster by not allowing an earned run and struck out 15 in his 10 appearances (12.2 IP)…the award annually goes to the top rookie performer amongst the Peoria Sports Complex partners (Mariners or Padres).
