Through spontaneous innovations and inspirations by organising knowledge based seminars and exhibitions made the State of Maharashtra to achieve much kudos. The recently held SARAS exhibition held at the India Gate lawns won the Maharashtra the first places across the nation even for the best cuisine. Time and again the team evolving to scale up the performance and empowering women at the grass root level. MSRL have an intensive districts to the tune of 34 Women Mobilized to the tune of 4543567 with a Self Help Groups 427606 and have empowered the families to the tune of 7226000. With these facts and figures clearly the State of Maharashtra is in the forefront in enabling rural women fraternity. Be it an yellow revelation or fishing the rural women are adapting the change and act as a catalyst for innovation and continuous learning through knowledge seminars. In The capacity building front too MSRLM has adopted the saturation approach, where at least one member from each identified rural poor household, preferably a woman, is brought under the Self Help Group (SHG) network in a time bound manner. The Mission adopts different strategies for social inclusion and mobilization of all identified BPL households into functionally effective and self-managed institutions, with particular focus on inclusion of vulnerable sections like scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, disabled, landless, migrant labour, isolated communities and communities living in disturbed areas. Using participatory vulnerability assessment and ranking methodology it identifies the poorest and the most vulnerable amongst the BPL households. Both men and women from identified households would be organised into institutions of the poor (including farmers’ organisations, producers’ cooperatives etc.) for addressing livelihood issues. These aggregates & graduate into higher level institutions supported by community resource persons (CRP), which ensures the processes of inclusion and mobilization. SARAS Mela is an initiative by the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India with an objective to bring the rural women SHG members formed under DAY-NRLM, in one platform to showcase their skills, sell and build linkages with potential market players. SARAS Mela not only provides a platform to these SHG women, but it also provides a national level exposure to understand the demand and taste of the urban customers in metros. The SARAS IITF Mela is been organized by Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) along with DAY-NRLM, MoRD. Over 20 years now, SARAS has evolved as a brand and has brought wide range of products handcrafted by the Self Help Group of DAY-NRLM. The SARAS-IITF Mela 2019 at PragatiMaidan, New Delhi is being organized by the Ministry of Rural Development 240 artisans from different states are showcasing wide range of curated collection of products like handicrafts, handlooms and natural food products in 120 stalls at Hall No.7 (F, G & H). Each stall, each product and each of the participating rural SHG women has a story to share their experience. It is a part of the effort of the Ministry of Rural Development to provide direct and fair linkage to the skilled rural women groups of India to opportune market, making them avail even handed exchange for their skill and hard work. The SARAS IITF 2019 has been inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of India. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Minister of State for Rural Development, Government of India also participated as Special Guest. Secretary Rural Development Shri Amarjeet Sinha, Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries and Directors of Rural Development Ministry and officials from ITPO also participated in the inaugural function SARAS IITF 2019. SARAS-IITF 2019 displays a large variety of handloom and handicraft items made by SHG members of DAY-NRLM, MoRD across States. Some of the special attractions in SARAS- IITF 2019, Pragati Maidan this year are natural food items, handicraft and handloom. Details of the products displayed this year are mentioned below: i. Natural food items: gram-flour, rice, cashew nut, organic pulses from Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand; spices and coffee from Kerala; tea leaves from Sikkim, organic vegetables and spices from Uttrakhand; medicinal herbs, rice and honey from Uttar Pradesh and mahualadoo from Chhattisgarh etc. ii. Handicraft: bamboo art and water hyacinth products from Assam; Madhubani paintings and Sikki craft from Bihar; candles, soap, wooden name plates from Chhattisgarh; wooden toys, decorative items from Goa and Gujarat; metal art, terracotta item, artefacts from Haryana; artificial flower art from North East; jewellery from Karnataka; footwear from Maharashtra and Rajasthan; sabai handicrafts, brass item, golden grass products and Odisha; lac bangles from Bihar; jute hand bags from West Bengal. iii. Handloom: Silk saree, cotton saree, handloom cloth, cotton suit from Odisha, Bihar and Chhattisgarh; bedsheets from Uttar Pradesh; Kantha Stiches sarees and dress materials of West Bengal; exclusive sarees of Telangana and Kerala; woolen and pashima shawls of Jammu & Kashmir; dress materials, woolen shawls and jackets from Uttarakhand, woolen shawls from Himachal Pradesh; hand crafted jutties and mojeries, leather items of Rajasthan; leather lamp sheds, painting and wood craft of Andhra Pradesh. www..forevernews.in New Delhi: Kolhapuri chappals are from the state of Maharashtra are hand- crafted leather slippers that are locally tanned using vegetable dyes. Kolhapuri Chappals or Kolhapuri s as they are commonly referred to are a style of open- toed, T-strap sandal which originated from Kolhapur, a southern district in the state of Maharashtra. According to historic records, Kolhapuris were first worn as early as the 13th century. Previously known as Kapashi, Paytaan, Kachkadi, Bakkalnali, and Pukari, the name indicated the village where they were made. The making of Kolhapuri chappals can take up to 6 weeks to make a pair of Kolhapuris. Originally made from buffalo-hide and thread, they weighed as much as kilos because of the thickness of the sole, which made them durable despite the extreme heat and mountainous terrain found in the state of Maharashtra.
