Day 01: Chennai – Mamallapuram(55 KMS 1.5 HRS) Mahabalipuram –
Pondicherry(95 KMS 2 HRS)
Pickup from Chennai hotel and drive to Pondicherry en-route visit Mamallapuram. Mahabalipuram - A
beautiful beach which consists of a the tiny village by the sea in which all else is dwarfed by a dream
world of awesome Tamil art, an open air museum of sculpture in living rock. The piece de resistance
is Arjuna’s Penance or the Descent of the Ganga, the world’s largest bas-relief, 764 ft. by 288 ft.
(27m by 9m). It is a beautiful composition of hundreds of celestial beings, human and animals all
hurrying to a natural rock cleft that divides the giant stone. The best known landmark of
Mahabalipuram, is the Shore Temple which has stood by the sea for 12 centuries. Its twin spires are
pure poetry in granite.
Late drive to Pondicherry and on arrival proceed for sightseeing of Pondicherry

Pondicherry, former capital of the French territories in India Landmarks include the Raj Niwas, the
residence of the Lt. Governor of Pondicherry - a handsome 200-year-old building which faces
Government Park (French Place) with its well laid out paths and lawns, a few fountains and a
number of sculptures. The Romain Rolland Library has over 60,000 volumes on its shelves. The
Pondicherry Museum has an outstanding collection of artefacts relating to all aspects of the French
Indian past. Its prize exhibits the bed that Dupleix slept on when he was Governor of Pondicherry.
The church of Notre Dame des Anges was built around 1865. It has a rare oil painting of Our Lady
of the Assumption, a gift from Napoleon III.

Day 02: Pondicherry – Chidambaram (65 KMS 1.5 HRS) Chidambaram – Tanjore
(110 KMS 03 HRS) After breakfast, departure to Chidambaram the city of the Hindu temples.
Chidambaram is an important pilgrimage center for Shivaiti (followers of the God Shiva) and known
for its famous Nataraja temple which was erected during the reign of Vira Chola Raja (927-997 AD).
This large temple complex (covering 40 acres) is an excellent example of the Dravidian architecture
of Tamil Nadu. The Nataraja Sabhanayaka Temple has 4 gopuram, to the north and south those
towering 49 meters high. Two of the gopuram are covered with the 108 classic positions of Nataraja
- Shiva in her role as the cosmic dancer. Other notable features of the temple are the hall of 1000
collars, the court Nritta Sabha presents itself as if it were a gigantic cart.
Later afternoon visit of Tanjore.
Thanjavur as it was earlier called, was the capital of the chola Empire from the 10th century to the
14th century A.D. later is become part of the Vijaynagar kingdom, then passed into the hands of the
Marathas and later still went to the British. For ages it has been the chief political, literary and
religious centre of the South. The celebrated temple Brihadeshra built by the Chola King during the
11th century is its major attraction. The Saraswati Mahal library,

Day 03: Tanjore – Trichy (65 KM/2 HRS) Trichy – Madurai (140 KM/3.5 HRS)
After breakfast, departure to from the hotel and visit trichy the city of the Hindu temples.
Tiruchirappalli, universally known as Trichy or Tiruchi, is not just a journey crossing; but also mixed a panting
bazaar with some important temples not to be missed. It is a huge, crowded and lively city and the fact that
most of the hotels have been built together around the large bus station. But Trichy has a strong character
and long history, and a sneaky way reversal of first impression. Trichy may have been a capital of the Chola
kingdom in the early 3rd century BC. It was conquered by the Pallava, Chola medieval, Pandya, Sultanate of
Delhi and Vijayanagar before the Madurai Nayaks took the prominence, making it a capital in the 17th century
and built their famous Fort Rock Temple, perched on a massive spur.
Visit to the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple indu temple. Located on an island called Srirangam on the Cauvery
River is this temple in a fascinating complex built in the 10th century. The temple complex is well preserved
and has an area of over 60 hectares with seven concentric walls and 21 gopuram; it is one of the biggest
temples in India.
Later drive to Madurai and on arrival proceed for sightseeing of Madurai

Sightseeing of Madurai visiting Great Meenakshi Temple dedicated to the consort of Lord Shiva with its
towering Gopurams, rising high above the surrounding township. Later visit the Tirumala Nayak Palace - a
gracious building in the Indo-Saracenic style, famous for the stucco work on its domes and arches.

Day 04: Madurai Departure
