Cycle Two#2 –1 Samuel 15:22-23Popular Misapplication: “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice.”
Passage’s Primary Message: _________________________________
What’s Preached: “Obedience is better than sacrifice.”
What the Bible Says: Verse 22 – Which does God want more – our obedience to His voice or our burnt offerings and sacrifices? He wants obedience. To obey is better than to sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
Verse 23 – To sacrifice without obedience reveals two heart issues: rebellion and insubordination. Rebellion is comparable to the sin of witchcraft and divination. Insubordination is comparable to idolatry. Then Prophet Samuel delivers the word of judgment (decision) – Saul now fired from being king because he “fired” or rejected the word of the Lord. He put sacrifice over obedience, AND revealed his wicked heart.
