Bob Baxter was excited when he
heard the Sorento recently won an
award for being a top safety vehicle.
“My wife and two kids ride around in
a Sorento, so that’s great news,” he
said. Baxter installs bumpers in the
General Assembly shop at KMMG.
“It’s also good to know that we are
doing quality work.”
The 2011 Sorento CUV compact utility
vehicle was named this month as a
“Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in
the midsize SUV category when built
after March 2010. The Sorento, built
here at Kia Motors Manufacturing
Georgia, received the organization’s
top honor by earning “Good” ratings
– the highest achievable – in frontal,
side, rear and rollover impact crash
safety tests.
Ratings from the Institute are based
on results from frontal, side and
rear impact crash tests, and for
2010 a good performance in a roof
strength test to measure protection
in a rollover also was required to
win. Each vehicle’s overall evaluation
was based on various measurements
specifi c to each crash angle, and
overall impact on crash test dummies
inside the vehicle at the time of
collision. All vehicles must have
electronic stability control available to
be eligible.
Bobby Locke, senior manager of
General Assembly, praised his team
for winning the award. “The top
safety rating is a testament to the
hard work that team members put
into building each Sorento,” Locke
said. “We hope to win many awards in
the years to come as we continue to
produce a top quality vehicle.”

TOP SAFETY PICK
by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
General Assembly team member Jerone Dabon said “yea, we won!” when
he heard about the award. “I’m happy to work for a company that invests in
safety,” Dabon said.
Ted Arnold, manager of vehicle Quality Control and Welding and paint
Quality Control, said the rating is an honor. “Most families base their vehicle
purchases on safety ratings, so to be named top in your class is excellent
news,” Arnold said.
The Sorento CUV has received
an “excellent” rating from
Consumer Reports
The Sorento CUV has received an “excellent” rating from Consumer
Reports.
The July issue of the magazine has already hit the stands, and it ranks the
Sorento high among its small/midsize SUVS.
“The Sorento now ranks among the better SUVs Consumer Reports has
tested,” David Champion, senior director of the publication’s auto testing
department, told USA Today. “It’s a competent vehicle that strikes a good
balance of passenger room and size at a good price.”
k m m g u s a . c o m • 5Stuart Countess is proud of the recent
accolades the Sorento has received
– a top safety award from the Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety and an
“excellent” rating from Consumer
Reports – but, he said there’s no time
to brag.
TEAM MEMBERS HELP SORENTO/KIA SALES SOAR
Ken Miles of the fi nance department said the
Sportage was right for him and his family.
“With three daughters, the Sportage gives me
the passenger and cargo room that I need,”
Miles said. “Plus, the smooth 5-speed with the
peppy 2.0 liter 4-cylinder, makes the Sportage
a lot of fun to drive.”
Team members at Kia Motors
Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG)
are helping boost the sale of the 2011
Sorento CUV and other Kia vehicles.
May sales show Kia vehicles increased
20.6 percent over the same period
last year, and that year-to-date sales
are up 14.6 percent, with the 2011
Sorento CUV again leading the way as
Kia’s best-selling vehicle, with 8,166
units sold in May.
KMMG team members say they
purchased Kia vehicles because they
are economical, stylish and have an
outstanding warranty.
James Kun H. Koo, a specialist in
procurement, recently purchased a
Forte Koup – another top seller for
Kia Motors.
“The Kia Forte Koup is an
embodiment of the three things I
look for in a fun car — world class
handling, refreshingly aggressive
styling, and unmatched fuel
effi ciency,” Koo said. “And, the
warranty is awesome.”
Donald Menke, assistant
manager of fi nance at KMMG,
recently purchased a Sorento for
his family.
“We were impressed with the
body style and look of our
new Sorento, especially the
panoramic sunroof,” Menke
said. “It feels like we’re riding in
luxury at an affordable price.”
John Gick, assistant manager
in general assembly, kicked his
Tahoe to the curb for a 2010
Optima.
“Since I have a fairly long
commute to work each day,
there are two things that I
really enjoy about my new
Optima,” Gick said. “First is
the gas mileage. I now spend
about half as much on fuel as
I did when I drove my Chevy
Tahoe. The second thing is
the built-in satellite radio. It
makes the commute much more
enjoyable.”
K.S. Kim, senior vice president of human
resources, administration, legal and public
relations at KMMG, is encouraged by team
members who purchase Kia vehicles.
“We are pleased that so many team
members are purchasing the vehicles that
they build here at the West Point plant,”
Kim said. “And that they are purchasing
other Kia vehicles as well.”
COUNTESS PROMOTED TO DIRECTOR OF QUALITY SUBDIVISION
“The awards will give us lots of
positive exposure, but our goal
is to improve daily,” Countess
said. “Each day we have to look
at how to achieve better targets.
If we do this, we will continue
to receive more top ratings and
more awards.”
Countess, who has more than 15
years automotive experience, was
recently promoted to director
of Quality subdivision. He was
formerly senior manager of
General Assembly at KMMG,
and before that worked in quality
at Mercedes Benz. He also
has experience in the defense
industry.
Countess said the scope of
responsibility for his former and
current position is the same: “to
build-in quality.” But, the duties
are more extensive, some of
which include: meeting customer
expectations, ensuring supplier
quality, reviewing feedback from the warranty
departments and instituting national quality
standard with the Business Management
System (International Organization for
Standardization/Technical Specifi cation
16949) – BMS(ISO/TS16949).
Countess sees KMMG as a leader in the
automotive industry and says team work will
be the key to maintaining and improving
quality.
“The message to all team members is that
everyday we have to fi nd a way to improve
from what we did yesterday,” he said. “And,
our goal can’t be accomplished with just one
person. It will take all of us working together,
a team approach – which not only includes
KMMG but our suppliers as well.”
Countess is originally from Decatur, Ala. and
now lives in LaGrange. In his spare time, he
enjoys playing golf and spending time with
his wife and two children.

Who we are
8 • k m m g u s a . c o m
You may have seen Felecia Huguley on a Delta fl ight. Before coming to KMMG in August 2009, she was a former fl ight attendant for Delta airlines. She left Delta to take care of her family. Felecia works in the Paint repair shop. She loves deep-sea fi shing, traveling and says she works with one of the most outstanding teams and group leaders at KMMG.
Lee Hodge is a former police detective, but says his job at KMMG is the most interesting job he’s had. Hodge worked as a police detective for 28 years and says there is one case that still haunts him. Hodge works in KMMG’s Stamping Shop.
Myra Settle never meets a stranger. She is one of the most friendly team members at the paint shop. When she’s not at KMMG working as an administrative assistant in the paint shop, she serves as a senior wine consultant and does a little modeling in her spare time.
You might have seen Mike Ware driving a tugger truck through general assembly as part of his job in production control. When Mike isn’t at KMMG, he serves on several boards and committees at his church in Columbus. He mentors youth and works with the men’s ministry, transports the elderly and serves a substance abuse counselor.

ContributorsPatrick SandsCorinne HodgesZena Troullier of the fi nance department loves her 2010 Kia Soul. “It’s fun to drive,” she said. “It’s economical on gas, has a great sound system, there are lots of options and it’s reasonably priced.”
KMMG Team members recently started rocking out in the can-
teen when they heard the new Kia Soul hamster commercial
– set to the hip-hop song “The Choice is Yours” by The Black
Sheep – play on the closed-circuit TVs.“That is one of the coolest commercials,” said Teresa Reece of
General Affairs. “It is so funny to see the hamsters jamming to a
hip-hop song. It defi nitely captures your attention.”The Kia Hamster commercials also captured the attention of the
American Marketing Association. The New York chapter of AMA
recently awarded Kia a 2010 Silver EFFIE Award for its fi rst Ham-
ster commercial, “A New Way to Roll.” The EFFIE Awards (short
for effective), recognize the most effective advertising efforts in
the U.S. each year. The Kia Soul television ad won the EFFIE in the
“David v. Goliath” category, which grants awards to smaller, new
or emerging brands that challenge category leaders head-on.
KIA SOUL HAMSTER COMMERCIAL HONORED WITH 2010 SILVER EFFIE AWARD
In response to the immense popularity of the initial campaign, the hamsters have made an
encore appearance in the new “This or That” campaign, also created by David&Golath. In this
new chapter of the Kia Soul hamster story, the loveable creatures are shown driving through
city streets to the tune of “The Choice is Yours,” giving viewers the choice between “This,”
the funky and uniquely styled Soul, or “That,” a number of boring and mundane appliances on
wheels, cardboard boxes or hamster wheels. The commercial can be seen on cable networks
through July.

the purpose oF the museum: The Explorations in Antiquity Center’s purpose is to transport
the visitor across the sea and through the ages to the earlier times
and places of the Judeo-Christian heritage in the Middle East.
The archaeological remains can help understand earlier periods
and rediscover the hopes and fears of peoples long ago. Our
museum can help the visitor find meaning from the amazing
archaeological discoveries from the biblical world. a non-proFit organization:A non-profit organization, the Explorations in Antiquity Center
is not related to any particular denominational organization. It is
important for our Christian board members and staff team serve
peoples of all faith traditions, as well as those of no particular
tradition, and to show a sensitivity and respect for those from
different traditions than their own. What unites us is an interest
in cultivating a curiosity for respecting the past and all it has to
offer to the present.
an interactiVe, experiential museum:
The Explorations in Antiquity Center is an interactive living
museum of life in ancient times. Step back into time as you sit
in a real goat-hair tent like the nomadic shepherds have lived
in for thousands of years. See tombs like those in which the
prophets and Jesus were buried. Visit a village and city gate area
to see what life was like 3000-2000 years ago. Dine with the
ancients as you partake of a Passover Meal much like that which
Jesus ate at the Last Supper. Enter the Time Tunnel and learn
about the worship practices of pagans, Jews and Christians from
2000 BC to 500 AD by exploring replicas of excavated houses
of worship from Israel. These opportunities and so many more
await you at the Explorations in Antiquity Center!
Life of the farmer attractions: Vineyard watch tower, grape presses,
