1.2 Safety / environmental limitations / guarantee conditions 1.2.1 GENERAL

The Framo cargo pumping system is designed for a long life and reliable operation. To obtain this long life it is important that the system is operated according to the intentions. Further, the specified preventive maintenance must be carried out and the cleanliness level in the hydraulic system must be kept within acceptable limit.

For maximum efficiency, operate as few power packs as possible, maintaining the

    required oil flow.

Hydraulic system pressure should be kept to a minimum above the requirements to the highest consumer.

Operation of the pumps to be within the capacity range. In case of low discharge pressure, observe for abnormal noise and vibration.

Reduce the hydraulic pressure until stable condition is obtained. Only qualified personnel should operate the system, thus ensuring a safe and

economic operation. Necessary training is owner's responsibility. Framo may offer several alternatives for technical training. System adjustments and service work should only be performed by a Framo

service engineer, or by qualified members of ships crew. Overspeed (tripping) of the Framo cargo pumps cannot occur due to the speed control valve - STC (Speed Torque Controller). This valve is limiting the hydraulic oil flow to the pump's motor and consequently the maximum speed. The maximum oil flow is adjusted by Framo, and the adjustment screw is sealed. Overspeed is impossible as long as this seal is unbroken. If the seal is broken, warranty claims will be refused. Dry running situations may occur during stripping and tank cleaning operations. The bearings in the Framo cargo pump is lubricated and cooled by the hydraulic return oil, which means that the pump can run dry without any damage to the

pump. However, unnecessary dry running should be avoided. The hydraulic return oil temperature is also a bearing monitoring system. An alarm will be activated if the hydraulic oil temperature exceeds 60C. The Framo pumps can be run against closed cargo valve without any risk of eventual overheating as the wear ring loss is lead directly back to the tank.

1.2.2 SAFETY / ENVIRONMENTAL LIMITATIONS / GUARANTEE CONDITIONS

Hydraulic connections and particularly flexible hoses must be regularly checked to avoid leakage.

Hydraulic oil based on mineral oil has a flash point between 180 - 230C and leakage must not come in contact with heated surface.

Hydraulic oil is slightly toxic, but will not cause bodily harm during normal use. High concentration of oil fog can irritate the respiratory system. Long lasting contact with the skin may cause skin irritation. Cover the skin or use protecting cream when working with hydraulic oil. Oil into the eyes is normally not dangerous, but painful. Rinse the eye with fresh water for about 15 minutes.

Do not start any service work on hydraulic items if the hydraulic circuit is

    pressurized.

Do not paint mechanical parts of valve shut-off switches.

Switch off the main switch before any work is carried out inside the electrical control panel. Be aware of foreign voltage from starters.

Never enter a cargo tank before the tank is certified gas-free and clarified as safe.

Before opening of cargo handling equipment, precautions must be taken against the possible release of dangerous cargo or gas.

When portable equipment is used, connect the hydraulic hoses as follows:

Note! Always connect return hose before pressure hose when connecting.

Note! Always disconnect pressure hose before return hose when disconnecting.

Ear protectors should always be used when entering noisy areas or working with noisy machines. Hydraulic power pack rooms, pump rooms with hydraulic driven pumps and rooms with hydraulically driven bow thrusters are considered as noisy areas. Hydraulic pumps/motors and hydraulically driven fans are considered as noisy machines.

    1.2.3 GUARANTEE CONDITIONS

Only acceptable oil quality and blends according to Framo lubrication chart to be used.

Oil sample shall be taken according to separate instruction - A particle count and water content test on each sample shall be taken to

check the cleanliness level. - Every six months a total analysis shall be made of the hydraulic oil and it

must be analysed for water content and type, viscosity, total acid number, strong acid number and antiwear additive content.

Magnetic chip detectors to be checked according to separate instruction. Filter change to take place according to this instruction.

Any leaks must be corrected as quickly as possible. Relief valves shall be set according to separate instruction, and set points

checked every six months. After a repair, make sure that all air is vented from the system. Re-filling of oil only to be done through the Framo filling pump. The supply voltage must be kept within +/-10%. If override is used for operation of the system, make sure that the instructions

given from Framo are followed. Override operation must be reported to Frank Mohn Services, including the reason for using override mode. Purging of cargo pump cofferdam to be done according to separate instruction

and instruction given by the purging report format. Abnormal leakage to be repaired immediately. Filled in purging reports to be sent to Frank Mohn Services after every round trip.

To ensure that the quality level of the system is kept, only genuine spare parts

from a Framo office shall be used in the system. Wear and tear parts are excluded from the guarantee. These parts include, but

are not limited to the following: - All filter elements in the system. - All o-rings and dynamic seals, i.e. shaft seals. - All wear rings.

The guarantee also excludes: - Abnormal wear due to erosion from pumping cargoes with high sediment

content. - Corrosion caused by highly corrosive cargoes, or seawater.
