The first three levels of consciousness focus on our personal self‐interest—satisfying our physiological need for security and safety, our emotionalneed for love and belonging, and our need to feel good about ourselvesthrough the development of a sense of pride in who we are, and a positivesense of self‐esteem. Abraham Maslow referred to these as “deficiency”needs. We feel no sense of lasting satisfaction from being able to meet theseneeds, but we feel a sense of anxiety if these needs are not met. Whenthese needs are paramount in our lives, we are conditioned by theexpectations of those around us—by our social environment (the family andthe culture we were brought up in). We align, and are loyal to the groups withwhich we identify. The focus of the fourth level of consciousness is on transformation—learning how to manage, master or release the subconscious, fear‐basedbeliefs that keep us anchored in the lower levels of consciousness. Duringthis stage of our development, we establish a sense of our own personalauthority, and our own voice. We are able to let go of our need to identifywith our social environment because we have learned how to master ourdeficiency needs. We now choose to live by the values and beliefs thatresonate deeply with who we are. We begin the process of self‐actualizationby focusing on our individuation. The upper three levels of consciousness focus on our need to findmeaning and purpose in our existence; actualizing that meaning by making adifference in the world, and leading a life of self‐less service. AbrahamMaslow referred to these as “growth” needs. When these needs are fulfilledthey do not go away. They engender deeper levels of motivation andcommitment. During this stage of our development, we increasingly developthe capacity to stand back and reflect on the strengths and limitations of ourown ideology. We learn how to become our own self witness, and developan inner compass that intuitively guides us into making life affirmingdecisions.

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, is one of the greatest leaders the African peoplehave ever produced. Born August 17, 1887 in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica,he spent his entire life in the service of his people--African people.

Garvey was bold; he was "uncompromising and he was one of the mostpowerful orators on record." His goal was to totally and completely

redeem and liberate the African people around the planet. He organizeda chapter of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and AfricanCommunities League. The UNIA & ACL had been formed in Jamaica in1914. Its motto was "One God, One Aim, One Destiny," and pledged

itself to the redemption of Africa and the uplift of Black peopleeverywhere. It aimed at race pride, self-reliance and economic

independence. Within a few years Garvey had become the best-knownand most dynamic African leader in the Western Hemisphere and

perhaps the entire world. In 1919 Mr. Garvey created an internationalshipping company called the Black Star Line. By 1920 the UNIA hadhundreds of divisions. It hosted elaborate international conventions and

published a weekly newspaper entitled the Negro World. MarcusGarvey, who is viewed as a prophet of Jah, by Rastas, was a keen

proponent of the "back to Africa" movement, advocating that all peopleof the black race should return to their ancestral homeland of Africa. His

philosophy fundamentally shaped the movement. Many of di earlyRastas started out as Garveyites. He is often seen as a second John the

Baptist, preparing the way for Christ-Like figure that is His ImperialMajesty, Haile Selassie I. One of the most famous prophecies attributed

to him involving the coronation of Haile Selassie I was the 1927pronouncement "Look to Africa, for there a black king shall be crowned."

Psalms 68:31SALUTE Marcus Garvey passed, June 10, 1940.

Truth vs. Opinion. The Light vs. The Darkness. Fact vs.Fiction. Creation vs. The Big Bang Theory.

This universe is founded upon the lightness The MostHigh established from the beginning. His spirit ever since

then has become our universal truth serum. John 1: 1- 5,"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was withJah, and the Word was Jah. He was with Jah in the

beginning. Through him all things were made; without him

nothing was made that has been made. In him was life,

and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the

darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."

The light stands parallel to truth. A man that knoweth

light knoweth fact. This man knoweth Jah. He knoweth Jah

Rastafari.The Truth.The Fact.

Travel inside the eyes -- our window to the world -- and learn how they allowus to see objects both near and far.

In order to see, there must be light. Light reflects off an object and -- if one islooking at the object -- enters the eye.

The first thing light touches when entering the eye is a thin veil of tears thatcoats the front of the eye. Behind this lubricating moisture is the front windowof the eye, called the cornea. This clear covering helps to focus the light.

On the other side of the cornea is more moisture. This clear, watery fluid is theaqueous humor. It circulates throughout the front part of the eye and keeps aconstant pressure within the eye.

After light passes through the aqueous humor, it passes through the pupil. Thisis the central circular opening in the colored part of the eye -- also called theiris. Depending on how much light there is, the iris may contract or dilate, limiting or increasing the amount of light that gets deeper into the eye. The lightthen goes through the lens. Just like the lens of a camera, the lens of the eyefocuses the light. The lens changes shape to focus on light reflecting from nearor distant objects.

This focused light now beams through the center of the eye. Again the light isbathed in moisture, this time in a clear jelly known as the vitreous. Surroundingthe vitreous is the retina.

Light reaches its final destination within the photo receptors of the retina: theretina is the inner lining of the back of the eye. It's like a movie screen or thefilm of a camera. The focused light is projected onto its flat, smooth surface. However, unlike a movie screen, the retina has many working parts:

• Blood vessels. Blood vessels within the retina bring nutrients tothe retina's nerve cells.• The macula. This is the bull's-eye at the center of the retina. Thedead center of this bull's eye is called the fovea. Because it's at thefocal point of the eye, it has more specialized, light sensitive nerveendings, called photoreceptors, than any other part of the retina.• Photoreceptors. There are two kinds of photoreceptors: rods andcones. These specialized nerve endings convert the light into electro-chemical signals.• Retinal pigment epithelium. Beneath the photoreceptors is a layerof dark tissue known as the retinal pigment epithelium, or RPE. Theseimportant cells absorb excess light so that the photoreceptors can givea clearer signal. They also move nutrients to (and waste from) thephotoreceptors to the choroid. Bruch's membrane separates the choroidfrom the RPE.• The choroid. This layer lies behind the retina and is made up ofmany fine blood vessels that supply nutrition to the retina and the retinalpigment epithelium.• Sclera. Normally light does not get as far as this layer. It is thetough, fibrous, white outside wall of the eye connected to the clearcornea in front. It protects the delicate structures inside the eye.

Signals sent from the photoreceptors travel along nerve fibers to a nervebundle which exits the back of the eye, called the optic nerve. The opticnerve sends the signals to the visual center in the back of the brain.

Now light, reflected from an object, has entered the eye, been focused, converted into electro-chemical signals, delivered to the brain andinterpreted or "seen" as an image.
