Wednesday, February 5, 2015Over 400 head of slaughter cattle, 345 head of feeders, and 50 bred cows sold today with the market continuing to show positive gains after the sharp decline a couple of weeks ago. Bulls continued to climb and sold about $3 higher than last week. The lean market for both Holstein and beef slaughter cows was very strong today. Overall, Holstein cows were higher by an average of $5; lean Holsteins sold better than fleshy and ranged $98.50-108.00, fleshy Holsteins $95-103.50. Beef cows continued to climb and averaged $3-5 higher than last week, also with lean having strong demand over fleshy cows. Lean cows ranged $104-114.00, fleshy beef cows $101.50-108.50, thin beef cows $95.50-100.00. Today’s beef sale included beautiful grain fed cows from Gill, lean cows from UT, ID, and Cheyenne and Grover. Lean, 5-8 month bred cows from UT averaged nearly $1700/hd. The highlights of today’s sale were super quality heifers from Malad, ID and Hillsdale, WY and steers from Lasalle.
