Scoreboard 2A CWAC A New Fresh Design The 2020-24 Classification Numbers Have Been Released T he time is now. The new four-year classification cycle has been finalized and on the left is a sneak peak at the new league structures. The Big Nine has unanimously voted to have all schools play at the 4A level and there will be no changes among any of the members. The reason why they made that decision is the guarantee they will get two playoff spots each year. 4A is the smallest classification (51 schools) in the state with the new hard-line numbers (1300+) and five schools using the free/reduced option to drop down. Overall, 15 schools opted up and another (Newport) opting to 3A for football. 3A (900-1299) exploded into the second-largest classification in the state with 79 schools. Sixteen schools opted up headed by Seattle’s Metro League (O’Dea, Eastside Catholic, etc.). 2A (450-899) will feature 62 schools with the CWAC dropping to seven from ten. Locally, Quincy will join the 1A Caribou Trail League while Toppenish and Wapato will move to the 1A SCAC. The old Great Northern League will disappear with all the schools (but 3A Cheney) moving to the new 2A Greater Spokane League division. Pullman, Clarkston and East Valley along with West Valley, will join Shadle Park and Rogers in the division while North Central will play 2A for football only. Deer Park, rumored to move from 1A to 2A, will stay at the lower classification. The SCAC will lose six teams to the 2B level but will remain ten strong. There are 60 teams in the 1A classification (225-449) overall with Blaine and Eatonville also dropping down. The 2B (105-224) has 61 teams. Cle Elum, Goldendale, Granger, Highland, River View and Warden will join the EWAC with local schools, White Swan, Mabton and Kittitas. The 1B level (1-104) is the largest classification with 85 schools. Sunnyside Christian, who was interested in playing in the 2B EWAC, instead joins 1B District 9 (with Yakama Nation, DeSales and Liberty Christian). Riverside Christian will stay in their same league while Bickleton joins most of the Gorge League in moving to Oregon. 2020-2024 Classification NumbersThe classification numbers are: 1,300 or more for Class 4A, 900-1,299for 3A, 450-899 for 2A, 225-449 for 1A, 105-224 for 2B and 1-104 for1B.Schools in Class 4A through 1A can choose to reduce its enrollment forevery 1 percent they are above the reduced lunch-rate average. Thepercentage a school can drop caps at 40. The free/reduced average is47%. (B schools can not use the free/reduced numbers.)Below are local schools and their numbers.
