God made everything. God made all things to worship Him. We, as humans, decided

to not do things Gods way, but to worship other things instead o worshiping the one

true God. God chose to remedy this sin. He sent Jesus, His only Son, to live a perect lie.

He then died on a cross or our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day Jesus lie

and death and resurrection allow us to worship God rightly again, orever.

    Dear Sunday School Teacher,

Your ministry as a teacher or our Lord has eternal value! When we view our ministry in light o

eternity, we see its importance and the privilege that God has entrusted to us. In Psalm 78, the

Bible also reminds us o this great calling: One generation commending the Gospel to the next.

Treri Crit Crric:The ministry resource that you hold in your hand is produced

and shaped by the local churchThe Bride o Christ. We have three primary strategies thatguide us. First, we desire to produce a Gospel-centered curriculum that allows every child, babies to

high school students, to study the same Scripture passage each week. Second, we seek to equip

parents to thrive in their God-given role as their childs primary discipler. We want this resource,

thereore, to connect the church and the home by providing the Connecting Church and Home

resource within the curriculum. Third, we want to respond to the

desperate need or curriculum resources around the world. We

desire to bless the nations with a tool that will help them reach

the world with the Gospel o Christ.

    Qrter Oe: God on Display

Every relationship begins with an introduction. God introducing Himsel to us is the heartbeat o

    this study.

God on Display is a major theme that runs throughout all o Scripture. Gods desire to have com-

munion with those He created is seen rom cover to cover o the Bible. In the rst ew pages, we see

God communing in the Garden o Eden with Adam and Eve. The theme o communion continues

to be seen through the role o the Old Testament tabernacle and temple. In the New Testament,

God became incarnate in Jesus, God with us. Ater Jesus, the Father gives the Holy Spirit to believers

and institutes the Church. Fellowship in the Church breeds community, both with God and othersmade in His likeness. As believers, we are guaranteed that we will spend eternity in communion

with God, dwelling in His presence.

God is on display: everywhere; in the past, present and uture; and in our lives as believers. Let us

live continually to display Gods greatness and love.

    Eter te story

People oten ask the question, Who made

that? When we sees the beauty o the Sistine

Chapel, we wonder about the painters and

o their inspiration or their work. When we

see a nice car, we inquire as to the make and

model. Many o us know the name brands

o clothes and home technology equipment

just by their logo or design. What about the

vastness o the ocean and its rereshing waves? The size and grandeur o Everest? The stars,

space and wonder o innity? Laughter as

we look into a childs ace? The rst words o

Scripture introduce us to the One who made

that. Who made that? In the beginning God cre-

    ated the heaven and earth.

All that came into being existsfor Christthat is, everything exists to

display the greatness of Christ. Nothing

nothing!in the universe exists for its own sake.

Everythingfrom the bottom of the oceans to the

top of the mountains, from the smallest particle to

the biggest star, from the most boring school sub-

ject to the most fascinating science, from the ug-

liest cockroach to the most beautiful human, from

the greatest saint to the most wicked genocidal

dictatoreverything that exists, exists to make the

greatness of Christ more fully known.

Sovereignty means exercisingkingly power. We use the word in relation to

In ThE BEgInnIng, God created the

heavens and the earth. The earth was

without orm and void, and darkness was overthe ace o the deep. And the Spirit o God was

hovering over the ace o the waters. And God

said, Let there be light, and there was light.

And God saw that the light was good. And God

separated the light rom the darkness. God called

the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.

And there was evening and there was morning,

    the rst day.

and gOd saId, Let there be an expanse

in the midst o the waters, and let it separate

the waters rom the waters. And God made

the expanse and separated the waters that

were under the expanse rom the waters

that were above the expanse. And it was so.

And God called the expanse Heaven. And

there was evening and there was morning,

and gOd saId, Let the waters under the heav-

ens be gathered together into one place, and let

the dry land appear. And it was so. God called the

dry land Earth, and the waters that were gath-

ered together he called Seas. And God saw that

it was good. And God said, Let the earth sprout

vegetation, plants yielding seed, and ruit trees

bearing ruit in which is their seed, each according

to its kind, on the earth. And it was so. The earth

brought orth vegetation, plants yielding seed ac-

cording to their own kinds, and trees bearing ruit

in which is their seed, each according to its kind.

And God saw that it was good. And there was eve-ning and there was morning, the third day.

and gOd saId, Let there be lights in the

expanse o the heavens to separate the day rom

the night. And let them be or signs and or sea-

sons, and or days and years, and let them be lights

in the expanse o the heavens to give light upon

the earth. And it was so. And God made the two

great lightsthe greater light to rule the day and

the lesser light to rule the nightand the stars.

And God set them in the expanse o the heavens

to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and

over the night, and to separate the light rom the

darkness. And God saw that it was good. And

there was evening and there was morning, the

    ourth day.

and gOd saId, Let the waters swarm

with swarms o living creatures, and let birdsfy above the earth across the expanse o

the heavens. So God created the great sea

creatures and every living creature that moves,

with which the waters swarm, according to

their kinds, and every winged bird accord-

ing to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

And God blessed them, saying, Be ruitul and

multiply and ll the waters in the seas, and let

birds multiply on the earth. And there was eve-

ning and there was morning, the th day.

and gOd saId, Let the earth bring orth

living creatures according to their kinds

livestock and creeping things and beasts

o the earth according to their kinds. And it

was so. And God made the beasts o the earth

according to their kinds and the livestock

according to their kinds, and everything that

creeps on the ground according to its kind. And

God saw that it was good.

ThEn gOd saId, Let us make man in our

image, ater our likeness. And let them have do-

minion over the sh o the sea and over the

birds o the heavens and over the livestock and

over all the earth and over every creeping thing

that creeps on the earth. So God created man in

His own image, in the image o God He created

him; male and emale He created them. And Godblessed them. And God said to them, Be ruitul

and multiply and ll the earth and subdue it and

have dominion over the sh o the sea and over

the birds o the heavens and over every living

thing that moves on the earth.

and gOd saId, Behold, I have given you

every plant yielding seed that is on the ace

o all the earth, and every tree with seed in

its ruit. You shall have them or ood. And to

every beast o the earth and to every bird o

the heavens and to everything that creeps on

the earth, everything that has the breath o

lie, I have given every green plant or ood.

And it was so. And God saw everything

that He had made, and behold, it was very good.

the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth

were nished, and all the host o them. And on

the seventh day God nished His work that He

had done, and He rested on the seventh day

gOd CREaTEd OuT OF nOThIng.Without orm and void. Basically, nothing. That is how God

created everything, ex nihilo (Latin), meaning rom nothing, or the Hebrew word bara meaning

out o nothing. This term is oten used when speaking o how God made the entire universe.

Christians believe by aith that God created out o nothing due to the act that i anything else

had existed with God beore creation, then those things could rival God in His being. The Bible

states He is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4).

    God created light. Genesis 1:3-5

God created the sky. Genesis 1:6-8

God created the landand the oceans.

    God created manand woman.

    Genesis 1:26-31

    God rested. Genesis 2:1-3

Were we to deny creation out o nothing, we wouldhave to say that some matter has always existed and that it is eternal like God. This idea

would challenge Gods independence, His sovereignty, and the fact that worship is due Him

alone. Wayne Grudem, Bible Doctrine, pg. 125

    Gospel Truths About Man

    gOd CREaTEd ThROugh hIs WORd.

God didnt need anything else to help Him

create. There was nothing else, so He literallyspoke everything into existence. This very act

displays Gods control, His ultimate power and

His reign over all His creation.

gOd susTaIns hIs CREaTIOn. This word,

    sustain, is called Providence. Providence

means that He is in control or over thecreated orderall that we see and dont see

everything that is. That is Gods right as God.

He created all things, and He keeps all things in

    their specic order.

John 1:1-3: In the beginningwas the Word, and the Word was with God, and

the Word was God. He was in the beginning

with God. All things were made through Him,and without Him was not any thing made that

    was made.

The supremacy o the word oGod in the world goes back to creation. All crea-

tures must bow to His word. The rule of God

over creation through His word points to the real

    distinction between God and creation.

Graeme Goldsworthy, According to Plan, pg. 9

From the very frst verse o thecanon Gods uniqueness and sovereignty emerge.

In the beginning only one God creates the

heavens and earth. No other deity challengesGods right to create; no other deity helps God

create; no other deity opposes Gods creative

activity. Paul House, Old Testament Theology,

    pg. 59

I the mighty God chose to haveone vast gradation in His universe, from lofti-

est seraph to creeping reptile, from revolving

worlds to oating atoms, from macrocosm to mi-

crocosm, instead of making everything uniform,

who was there to question His sovereign pleasure?

    A. W. Pink, The Sovereignty of God, pg. 28

Man was created to be in a relationship with God. God did not have to create anything. He wasunique and independent beore creation. He chose out o His reedom to create man, in His image,

to be in a relationship with Him. We see in the early chapters o Genesis as well as throughout the

Bible that God has a unique relationship with man: one where He speaks to man, shows him His

ways, loves him, pursues him, and even disciplines him.

    Gospel Truths About Redemption

Beore He established the oundations o the world, God knew that the creation He reely choose

to create would need rescuing (Acts 2:23). He knew He would need to send Christ to make the

relationship right. Christ, the only Son o God, who was present at creation, was oered on our

behal to make right the relationship with the Creator.

God made everything. God made all things to worship Him.

We, as humans, decided to not do things Gods way, but to

worship other things instead of worshiping the one true God. God

chose to remedy this sin. He sent Jesus, His only Son, to live a perfect

life. He then died on a cross for our sins, was buried, and rose on the

third day. Jesus life and death and resurrection allow us to worship

    God rightly again, forever.

    My Mission As Teacher:

What do you take for granted and not thank the Creator of the universe for? He has made all

things and all things were made to give Him glory. Be actively aware this week o what you need

to be always thankul or in your lie.

How is your relationship with God? Can you set aside time this week to spend time with Him?

Worship the Lord through song, prayer, journaling, praising Him, reading the Bible, or exploring

His creation with active thoughts o praise and adoration.

    Prayer Points:

Pray that you would receive a fresh glimpse of the sovereign God who is in control of all things.

Pray that your students would know that God speaks to themnot only through creation but

As humanity enters the twenty-frst century, an even morefrightening prospect looms. Now even the church seems to be losing the will to de-

fend what Scripture teaches about human origins. Many in the church are too intimi-

dated or too embarrassed to afrm the literal truth of the biblical account of creation.

They are confused by a chorus of authoritative-sounding voices that insist that it is

possibleand even pragmatically necessaryto recocile Scripture with the latest

theories of naturalists. John MacArthur, The Battle for the Beginning, pg. 17

Four Facts about the Human Heart:(www.webmd.com)

    How the human heart functions

Every day, your heart beats about 100,000 times, sending 2,000 gallons of blood

surging through your body. Although its no bigger than your st, your heart has

the mighty job of keeping blood owing through the 60,000 miles of blood ves-

sels that feed your organs and tissues.

    Matters of the heart

When it comes to matters of the heart, men and women denitely arent created

equal. For instance, a mans heart weighs about 10 ounces, while a womans heart

    weighs approximately 8 ounces.

    Laughter: The good heart medicine

Health experts now have proof that laughter is good medicine. A good belly laugh

can send 20% more blood owing through your entire body. One study found thatwhen people watched a funny movie, their blood ow increased. Thats why laugh-

ter might just be the perfect antidote to stress. So have a good giggle. Your heart

    will thank you.

    I love you

Why is it that if we truly want to express the deepest parts of our emotions, we

use the phrase I love you with all my heart? What if we said, I love you with

the four quadrants that are located in the middle of my chest cavity? Would it

    have the same effect?

Among the most awe-inspiring aspects o creation is the humanbody. Every doctor who studies the body, every mother who births a child, every grandfather who holds

a grandchild, and every person who stops for a moment to consider the eyes that God gave them to read

these words, and the mind He gave them to understand them should be brought to a sense of worshipful

wonder. Mark Driscoll, Doctrine, pg. 39

mttew 6:25-34: Thereore I tell you, do

not be anxious about your lie, what you will

eat or what you will drink, nor about your

body, what you will put on. Is not lie more

than ood, and the body more than cloth-

sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet

your heavenly Father eeds them. Are you

not o more value than they? And which o

you by being anxious can add a single hourto his span o lie? And why are you anxious

about clothing? Consider the lilies o the eld,

how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet

I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was

not arrayed like one o these. But i God so

Discuss Deism with the students by using the Deism resource page (see resources). Figure A shows

a biblical model o the relation o God to creation. This model shows how God is clearly above and

distinct rom His creation, but He is always involved in His creation. Creation is dependent on God

or lie, sustainment and order. Figure B shows a Deists point o view. Deists believe in God, but

they believe He has a hands-o approach to His creation. In other words, creation is on its own tosurvive and exist.

Help your students to understand the implications these world views have on their lives and the

great dierence between the two. How would their lives be aected by a Deist worldview? Would

they worry more or have more ears? What about the weight o responsibility or their actions? As

a Deist, would they eel more reedom? As Christian teens, how does the knowledge that God is or

    them aect their lives?

    My Mission: (10 minutes)

Discuss the quotes included above. Ask the students to consider these areas: prayer, worship,

reverence or God, trust and everyday needs and cares. How do these quotes encourage us to

have hope to participate in or be content with these areas because we are believers in Christ?

    Prayer Time: (10 minutes)

Share prayer requests about situations the students are concerned about in their own lives.

This can be done in pairs, groups or as a group as a whole. Younger students might preer toshare as a group; older students might nd praying together with just one or two better.

Remind the students that we can trust Scripture to be true because it is the very Word o God

and that God does all He says.

Deism is the view that God is not now directly involvedin the creation . . . Deism generally holds that God created the universe and is far

greater than the universe . . . They [Deists] deny Gods present involvement in the

world, thus leaving no place for His immanence in the created order. Rather, God is

viewed as a divine clock maker who wound up the clock of creation at the beginning

but then left it to run on its own . . . Many lukewarm or nominal Christians today are,

in effect, practical deists, since they live lives almost totally devoid of genuine prayer,

worship, fear of God, or moment-by-moment trust in God to care for needs that arise.

    connecting church and home

Parents are the means that Godwants to use to reach our children. This means that

we are responsible to reach our children for Christ.

William Farley, Gospel-Powered Parenting, pg. 21

God spared no expense. He went to great lengths through the act o creation to reveal Himsel.

However, creation and all its details, majesty and beauty is not the ocal point o Genesis 1. In-

stead, it is paramount that we understand that the worship o God is essential. Romans 1:25 says

that some have turned rom God and began to worship and serve what God created rather than

    Him, the One who created.

We see the importance o this stressed in the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:2-3: I am the

Lord your God . . . You shall have no other gods beore Me.
