Cork to getpost nataldepressionhospital unit20% of mums affected after having babyCORK is on track to have the country’sfirst hospital unit specifically forwomen with Post Natal Depression(PND).
Minister of State Kathleen Lynch confirmedthat as part of the new psychiatric unit at CorkUniversity Hospital, it’s proposed that a two bedunit be set aside for mothers with PND, which im-portantly, will allow mothers keep their babieswith them.“I have been speaking with management in

there is nothing there at the moment,” said Min-ister Lynch. “As long as it is determined that awoman needs to be hospitalised, she will get thecare she needs and crucially she will be able tokeep her baby with her which is vitally importantfor the bonding process between mother andbaby. Cork father drowns inThailand diving tragedyA 29-YEAR-old Cork father-of-one tragically drownedwhile diving in Thailand.Colin Callanan, from Innishannon, had been based inPerth, Australia for the past six years where he workedas a project manager with AMS services andmaintenance.He had been in Thailand on a business trip researchinga new product before the tragedy occurred on the islandof Koh Tao on Friday.The youngest of five, he was father to six-year-old Leeand was last home in Innishannon for Christmas,returning to Australia in January.A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs saidthey were providing consular assistance to the family.Funeral arrangements will be announced later thisweek.
