Waxahachie’s Lumpkins Stadium was flooded with fans and supporters wearing neon pink clothing for WISD’s “Pink Out” football game, which helps bring aware-ness to breast cancer, as the Indians went into a four-quarter shoot out with the district opponent Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles.

Although the green and white loaded up the scoreboard with 55 points through the four quarters on play, it still wasn’t enough to end the night on a victory. Waxahachie dropped to an overall record of 1-4 and still searching for their first win in District 14-5A play at the hands of a 72-55 Eagle’s beatdown.

Through 48-minutes of play, both teams combined their scores for total of 127 points, which placed the game tied at No. 27 spot in the “Most Points Scored by Both Teams (Since 1951)” record book, according to Texasfootball.com.

The Eagles put themselves up on the scoreboard first, with 8:41 left in the first quarter of play, 7-0. The Indians would immediately counteract with their own 1-2 punch when Jalen Reagor (No. 22) returned the ensuing kickoff 89-yards for the Tribe’s first points of the night.

Waxahachie would add another two touchdowns before the first quarter came to a close. First off of a 49-yard pass from quarterback Kareem Erskine (No. 7) to wide receiver (Keontrey Jackson (No. 5) and then once more off of a Greg Ander-son fumble recovery and return from 20-yards out. The first of four quarters would be in the books with the Indians trailing Lake Ridge by a point, 21-20.

The Tribe brought two more touchdown drives out in the second quarter, one on a 4-yard Trevon Smith (No. 1), who has been plagued with an injured sprained ankle since the Indians second game of the season, and then again off of a Rashawn Mosher (No. 12) catch from Er-skine for the 38-yard score. Despite the quick scoring Indian offense, the team would trail their opponent 48-34 going into the half.

The third quarter saw the green and white continue to build upon their un-usually high score, after the team added seven more points from a Kenneth Wash-ington (No. 6) touchdown, plus the extra point from kicker Roberto Perez (No. 29), after the 6-yard scoring play. Then the Reagor would rake in his second of the night on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Erskine.

Despite the Indians’ aggressiveness on the offensive side of the ball, the team

still trailed Lake Ridge, 55-48 heading into the final quarter of play.

The Indians would put up another scor-ing drive with just under two-minutes left on the clock after Mosher took the ball across the goal line on a 56-yard pass completion from Erskine for the pair’s second connection of the game.

Despite totaling up an impressive 55 points in 48 minutes, the Indians still couldn’t seal their first district win of the year after the clock expired with the Ea-gles on top by a final of 72-55. Mansfield’s

victory slid Waxahachie to 0-2 in District 14-5A play. The green and white hover at second to last place in the district, just above the 0-5 Red Oak Hawks.

Varsity football head coach David Ream still gave praise to his team, despite the squad dropping their third straight loss

“I thought Perez did a great job all night long,” said Ream. “He kicked the ball exactly where we wanted it and he probably had his best game.”

Waxahachie will have an extra week to

rest and prepare for their next game with this Friday being the Indians bye week. The team’s next gridiron face off will be on the road Oct. 10 at R.L Anderson Stadium on when the Indians fight for their first win in district against the 3-2 Mansfield Summit Jaguars.
