Cognos ReportNet (CRN)Report Studio
What is CRN Report Studio?
Using CRN Report Studio, you can create reports that cover the entire range ofenterprise reporting requirements. You can write a report once and distribute it tomany users in multiple languages and formats.

Getting Started
• On the Start page, double-click the CRN Report Studio icon
• Once the application is finished resetting, a browser will launch with theCognos ReportNet logon page
Create a New Report
We are now going to create a new report using Report Studio.
1. Log on using User ID: Administrator, no password and click OK
2. In the top-right corner, click the Report Studio link
3. Select the GO Sales and Retailers package
4. Select Create a new report
5. Select List format from the report, and click OK
6. Double-click the area labeled Double click to edit text, and type: MainPage and click OK
7. To highlight the entire blank List section above, click the first row orcolumn in the list
8. In the Insertable Objects pane:
Expand Orders • Double-click Retailer name
• Double-click Product name
Expand the Returned items folder• Double-click Return date
• Double-click Return quantity

Applying a Filter
1. On the Toolbar, click Filters and then in the Filters (Query 1) dialog
box, click Add
2. In the Available Components box, expand Orders and Returned items,and then double-click Return quantity
3. Select the Functions tab at the bottom, expand the Operators folder, andthen double-click >
4. In the Expression Definition box, place the cursor at the end of the
expression and type: 0
• The completed filter should read as follows:[gosales_goretailers].[Orders].[Return quantity]>0
5. To check the expression, click the validate ( ) icon
• If the expression is valid, you should see “No errors.” in theInformation frame below
6. Click OK to close the Filter dialog box
7. To close the Filters (Query 1) dialog box, click OK
8. Click on the <Retailer name> column on the main page, but do notselect the column header
9. On the toolbar click the Group/Ungroup icon
10. On the Toolbar, and with the <Retailer name> column still selected, click
the Sort icon and then select Sort Ascending

Applying Conditional Formatting to the Report
1. From the menu bar, select File\Variables… to define a variable
2. To add a variable, click on the Add icon on the bottom left of theVariables dialog box
3. When prompted for the name, type in: LowReturnValues keeping theType as Boolean, and when finished click OK
4. In the Layout Expression window double-click Return quantity fromthe Facts folder in the Available Components frame to add it to theExpression Definition: frame
5. Click at the end of [Return quantity] and type <100
• Your expression should read [Return quantity]<100
6. Click the validate ( ) icon to check the expression
• If the expression is valid you should see “No errors”. In theInformation frame below
7. Click OK to close the Layout Expression window
8. In the Variables dialog box, click OK
9. Mouse over the Condition Explorer bar to expand the window, andonce the window expands, click on the Yes condition
• Notice that the explorer bar has changed in color to green

10. On the report page, click on the <Return quantity> data item
11. In the List Column Properties pane on the bottom left-hand side of thescreen, click on the Conditional Style text item to activate the ellipses...
12. Click on the ellipses ... to bring up the Conditional Style dialog box
13. Select the previously created variable LowReturnValues within thedrop-down list, and click OK
14. In the List Column Properties pane on the bottom left-hand side of thescreen, click on the Background Color text item to activate the ellipses...
15. Click on the ellipses ... to bring up the Background Color dialog box.
16. Select the color Green and click OK
17. Repeat steps 10 to 16 above for data items <Return date> and also for<Product name>.
18. From the menu bar, click Run, and select Run Report (HTML)
• You will see that Products with return value less then 100 show asgreen
19. To close down the report that was just run, click Close in the top right

Now it’s time to log out
1. From the File menu, select Exit
2. When prompted, Are you sure you want to navigate away from this
page?, click OK
3. From the File menu, click Close to close Cognos Connection
