WEEKLY CHALLENGE

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians

3:14)

Last week, in Joshua 20, we looked at how the Levites were called to settle in the ‘cities of refuge’ as well as the other cities spread across the Promised Land to teach the Word of the Lord and minister to the Israelites and serve the Lord. So I ask this question, “do you know your call?” Be careful, because its a sort of trick question.

When we hear the term ‘our call’ we immediately think about something we are supposed to ‘go do’ for God, when in fact our first call is to ‘be with God.’ We are called to, first and foremost, a relationship with God through Jesus. That is our highest calling, above anything we could ever ‘do’ for Him. But that doesn’t negate the fact that God does want us to ‘go do’ for Him as well. However, we must ensure that our ‘go do’ never supersedes our call to our love relationship with our Heavenly Father through Jesus.

2Peter 2:10 puts these two calls together in one verse. It reads, “Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.” Peter encourages the church to ensure that they are diligent (24/7) to ensure that their calling to their unique ministry and their relationship with God are practiced daily. Let us know our call to an intimate relationship with God so that we can truly know what He wants us to do in response to that call. Proverbs 3:9-10 Since the beginning of the year, I have been wrestling a bit with the

idea of First Fruits Living. What does it look like?

How do I do give and live this way?

There are promises and examples in God’s Word about giving of our First Fruits.

I have some friends who live this way every day. I will share a part of their testimony

next week…but in the meantime, let’s continue to ask

God what giving Him our first and our best looks like? Maybe Jim’s Challenge gives us

a glimpse…as we grow in our relationship with the Lord by spending time with Him, He

will teach us and show us what we are “to do” with all He has called and gifted us to be,

do, and give.

Lord, show us how to live, to give, and to honor You with our first and our best so that we will experience more of Who You are and have called us to be. Amen

There has been a LOT of loving, feeding, praying, transporting, and showing kindness in many

ways to one another going on! You know who you are, and more

importantly God knows who you are. His Love is flowing through

you and He gets the glory!

CHURCH FOR THE BEACH LEADERSHIP’S VISION FOR 2018“…how beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring GOOD NEWS!” Roman 10:15

Last Sunday our Elders, Servant Shepherds, and Servant Leaders met to share what we believe is God’s heart for us to focus our prayer and vision on in 2018.

These are three areas of ministry that the Lord has highlighted to us:

Children(and Youth), Facilities, and Small Groups.

Please join us in asking and believing God in faith filled prayer to show us His Ways to accomplish His Vision for our church this year. May we all be ready and willing to fulfill His

call on our lives SO THAT we will serve in a way that the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ will be made known through His people at Church for the Beach.

Thank you to Pastor Jim for casting God’s vision…We will not be afraid to believe God with you for all He has planned for us this year. May all who come behind us find us faithful!

And, thank you to EVERYONE who is currently serving in these ministries! We love and appreciate you and welcome your prayerful input and ideas.

Specific Prayer Points:*Pray for God’s vision and purposes in our Children’s Ministry, our Small Group Ministry, and in our needs for future Facilities.

*Pray that God will provide for and fill every need in our Children’s Ministry, including passionate people to serve as Shepherds.

*Pray that God will give us new vision for our Small Groups and that He will provide people to open their homes to begin new groups.

*Pray that God will provide the facilities that we NEED in His perfect timing and way.

In all of these needs, may we not be limited to what IS, or what we think, but be free to dream and imagine what He wants to do, and not be held back by our fears and own understanding
