Project “Volunteers for Future” 1 A ug, 2012 - March 31, 2013 Project description This ho st ing EVS pr oj ect will take place in Iasi/Romania and its theme will be to raise awareness of the value and importance of volunteering as a form of active engagement and as a tool to develop or improve competences for personal, social and professional development of the young people. The objective of the project is to organize a public campaign with 16 public debates for the promotion of volunteering as a form of active engagement in the community for young people from the North-East region of Romania. The project will include a 8-month Service involving 4 EVS voluntaries, each from a different country (France, Poland, Turkey and Slovakia). The main activities will be planning and organizing of public presentations, debates and workshops, project promotion, project evaluation activities, all undertaken as part of a team. Methods: involvement of 4 EVS voluntaries in planning and organizing of activities (sharing ideas and information), inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, using „world cafe” debating technique and experience exchanges between EVS voluntaries and young people from Romania, use of participatory approaches (e.g. frequent interaction between the project team, EVS voluntaries and participants at the debates), continuous project monitoring and periodic evaluations. Description of the organization

 A.P.E.C.'s aims are the promotion of specific concepts of knowledge-based economyamong young people in Romania, to support sustainable development of economicenvironment, entrepreneurship, social and cultural context of Romania's EU integration.Basically, the Association for Promoting the Knowledge Economy (APEC) has proposed

to act as a platform to support young entrepreneurs in Romania who wish to undertakedevelopment projects following the Romanian economy and society based on specificresources for the knowledge-based economy.

Our regular activities consist in seminars, trainings, campaigns and other project-basedactivities. Our staff consist in 6 regular employees and more than 20 regular volunteers.We work with generally public, but we focus our efforts to young entrepreneurs from 18-35 yo.

Iasi description

Iași is one of the largest cities and a municipality in Romania. Located in the historicalMoldavia region, Iași has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Romaniansocial, cultural, academic and artistic life. The city was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia from 1564 to 1859, then of the United Principalities from 1859 to 1862, andthe capital of Romania from 1916 to 1918.

Known as The Cultural Capital of Romania, Iași is a symbol in Romanian history. Thehistorian Nicolae Iorga said "There should be no Romanian who does not know of it".Still referred to as The Moldavian Capital , Iași is the seat of  Iași County and the maineconomic centre of the Romanian region of Moldavia.

 As of 2011, Iași itself has a population of 263,410 (the fourth most populous Romaniancity), the metropolitan area is home to about 350,000 residents, while the population of the peri-urban area exceeds 500,000 residents. Home to the first Romanian universityand to the first engineering school, it is the second largest university centre in thecountry and accommodates over 75,000 students in 5 public and 7 private universities.

The social and cultural life revolves around the Vasile Alecsandri National Theater (theoldest in Romania), the Moldova State Philharmonic, the Opera House, the Tătărași

 Athenaeum, a famous Botanical Garden (the oldest and largest in Romania), theCentral University Library (the oldest in Romania), the high quality cultural centres and

festivals, an array of museums, memorial houses, religious and historical monuments.
