Reason and Prerequisites Solution Only change the following profile parameter after consulting with SAP Support. rspo/tcp/timeout/connect This parameter limits the set up time for the connection to remote printers when using access methods 'U' and 'S'. If the remote computer does not respond within this time, the print request is put on hold and the printer is blocked for some time (rspo/tcp/retrytime). Default value: 10 seconds Note: Before you increase this value, you should consider handling the connection to problematic printers using the host spool. An increase of the connection time reduces the performance of the overall system! rspo/tcp/timeout/read and rspo/tcp/timeout/write With these parameters, you set the maximum time for sending an individual packet to and receiving an individual packet from the remote printer. This period should be longer than the period for the connection setup. Default value: 20 seconds Note: Before you increase this value, you should consider handling the connection to problematic printers using the host spool. An increase of the connection time will reduce the performance of the overall system! rspo/tcp/retries This parameter determines the number of connection attempts to remote printers. If this number is reached, the status of the request is set to 'Error'. Default value: 3 rspo/tcp/retrytime With this parameter, you set the time interval between unsuccessful connection attempts. Default value: 300 seconds rspo/lpq/temp_disable_slow If a lpstat or lpq command for the host spool or a remote printer requires more time than defined here, this printer is regarded as broken and is blocked for some time (rspo/lpq/temp_disable_time). This reduces the load of the entire spool system caused by computers that are not answering. With value 0 you can deactivate this monitoring. Default value: 30 seconds Note: This parameter does not influence the time which restricts the execution of lpq or lpstat. For access method 'U' and 'S', it is restricted by rspo/tcp/timeout/connect or .../read. For the other access methods, there is no time limit. There is only a retroactive response to long execution times. rspo/lpq/temp_disable_time The printer is blocked for this time, if the response time exceeds the value defined with rspo/lpq/temp_disable_slow. Default value: 300 seconds rspo/lpq/warn_time If a lpq or lpstat command requires more time than the predefined time, a warning is written to the 20924 - Parameter settings for remote printing Version 9 Validity: 21.02.2006 - active Language English Released On 21.02.2006 23:33:45 Release Status Released for Customer Component BC-CCM-PRN-SPO Spool System Priority Recommendations / Additional Info Category Consulting

Solution

Only change the following profile parameter after consulting with SAP Support.

rspo/tcp/timeout/connect

This parameter limits the set up time for the connection to remote printers when using access methods 'U' and 'S'. If the remote computer does not respond within this time, the print request is put on hold and the printer is blocked for some time (rspo/tcp/retrytime). Default value: 10 seconds Note: Before you increase this value, you should consider handling the connection to problematic printers using the host spool. An increase of the connection time reduces the performance of the overall system!

rspo/tcp/timeout/read and rspo/tcp/timeout/write

With these parameters, you set the maximum time for sending an individual packet to and receiving an individual packet from the remote printer. This period should be longer than the period for the connection setup.  Default value: 20 seconds Note: Before you increase this value, you should consider handling the connection to problematic printers using the host spool. An increase of the connection time will reduce the performance of the overall system!

rspo/tcp/retries

This parameter determines the number of connection attempts to remote printers. If this number is reached, the status of the request is set to 'Error'. Default value: 3

rspo/tcp/retrytime

With this parameter, you set the time interval between unsuccessful connection attempts. Default value: 300 seconds

rspo/lpq/temp_disable_slow

If a lpstat or lpq command for the host spool or a remote printer requires more time than defined here, this printer is regarded as broken and is blocked for some time (rspo/lpq/temp_disable_time). There is only a retroactive response to long execution times.

rspo/lpq/temp_disable_time

The printer is blocked for this time, if the response time exceeds the value defined with rspo/lpq/temp_disable_slow. Default value: 300 seconds

rspo/lpq/warn_time

If a lpq or lpstat command requires more time than the predefined time, a warning is written to the
