This repor t documents the seismic evaluation f o r the ex is t ing safe ty c l a s s 1 inc inera tor glovebox in 2322 Building.. The glovebox i s no longer in use and most of the in te rna l mechanical equipment have been removed. However, the insu la t ion f i r e b r i c k s a re s t i l l in the glovebox f o r proper disposal .

Scope
This report documents the evaluation t o determine the seismic adequacy of the ex is t ing support fo r the incinerator glovebox located in Building 232-2 t o withstand seismic loads ( D B E ) . Based on previous seismic evaluation of ex is t ing gloveboxes a t the P F P Complex and from the r e s u l t s o f the f i e l d ve r i f i ca t ion walkdown, the evaluation will proceed by using the g r o u n d response spec t ra fo r .12g PGA (ha l f the return period fo r sa fe ty c l a s s 1 c r i t e r i a ) shown in Figure 5 of Reference 1. I f with the reduced loads, the ex is t ing support i s found t o be inadequate, a f i x or seismic upgrade will be designed using the .2g PGA spectra . I n b o t h cases , 5 % damping will be used.

Assumptions

which i s assumed t o be 50 pounds per cu. f t . Actual density (average) was .calculated and found t o be 43 pcf. See page 22 and Attachment A .
Conclusions
The ex i s t ing support frame fo r the incinerator glovebox i s n o t adequate t o withstand D B E loads t h a t are based on .12g PGA. anchor bo l t pul lout load i s 8430 l b s . The allowable capacity of the ex is t ing anchor bo l t s in tension i s 1785 l b s . which i s based on the ulimate capacity with a f ac to r o f safety of 4 and 3000 psi concrete compressive s t rength . Therefore the f a i l u r e o f the exis t ing anchor bol t s during the seismic event will cause the glovebox t o topple. However, a support frame with kick braces around the glovebox is recommended and designed i n t h i s report t o prevent the glovebox from toppling. The recommended ' f i x ' i s designed t o withstand the .2g D B E loads f o r sa fe ty c lass 1 equipment. shown on drawing H-2-824488, sheets 1 & 2 , Rev. 1 and the as -bui l t configuration is depicted in t h i s analysis .
